Assembly Manual Suggestions/Tweaks

Just finished the build of my Core One from kit and have a few suggestions/tweaks for the manual, or, if people find this before they start it *might* be useful.

Heat bed Assembly Step 30.

I had a terribly time getting the bed-spacer-rear oriented properly after putting the bed down the threads. My fingers are just big enough that I kept knocking it off.  So what I ended up doing was aligning the spacer on the bed and taping it in place.  Then lowering the bed down on the threads.

CoreXY Assembly:

Pictures of the belt orientations on the carriage, sides, rear that clearly show the teeth might be helpful.  I accidentally folded a belt and didn’t realize it until power up!  That was no fun.  Maybe at Step 58.

Bodywork & Electronics:

Step 15 Installing the magnets.  The part that shipped is slightly different than the one pictured and the stationary magnet is different.  IMO the shipped part is not as good as what’s in the picture.

Top, Sides, and Door:

I know it’s probably not a ‘great’ idea but since I had to take everything apart to fix the belts waiting until after a successful calibration might be better to install the sides, top, and door.

Belt Tuner:

The Belt Tuner web page made no sense and I struggled with it for several hours.  Here’s a loose step by step guide:

  1. Loosen both tension screws until the pulley detaches (or nearly detaches) from the screw, then reattach both tightening just until the screw is threaded  Move the gantry to the front of the print and check that it is hitting the stops on both sides at the same time.
  2. If one side is skewed (there is play) then wedge something on the opposite side like the flat side of the universal wrench, then slightly bend the side with play by hand. Then recheck.
  3. Once square then tighten the tension screws.
  4. They must be tightened by the same amount alternating between them. So left 2 turns, right 2 turns. Do this until the belts start to tighten. Then left 1 turn, right 1 turn. Next left 1/2 turn, right 1/2 turn.
  5. Move the gantry and printhead to the center then move the gantry forward by hand checking that both sides still hit the stops at the same time.

The key point is your gantry has to be square (parallel to the front of the printer) and both left and right tension screws must always be tightened or loosened by the same amount. Never turn them independently of each other.

A link to a video showing this process might be better than written text.
