kinked filament and knocking sound

I started an 8 hour print last night about an hour before I went to bed. I've made a couple dozen prints and haven't had any real issues with my printer that weren't user caused. The first layers went down fine and then I went to bed. I check it in the morning and it stopped after about the first 1/8" of printing. Ok so that's not great. I think about running another print while I'm at work but I decide I should be there to watch it go. I come up and I try to get it going and I hear a knocking sound. I discover that somehow the filament had become kinked and it wasn't feeding. I stopped the print, unloaded the filament, then tried to reload filament. No filament coming out and more knocking. I take the cover off the gear housing and this is what I see. It looks like the planetary gears are slipping. Is there an easy fix for this or am I waiting for parts?
