How to swap out bad LM10UU linear bearing (from step 5.6)

Hi all! While assembling my Core One, I discovered that one of the linear bearings (LM10UU) didn't slide well, and was binding up. Prusa sent out a new one (on the right) immediately, which was great! However, now that I've received it, I'm not sure how to actually swap out the bearing from the black housing (on the left)

I tried tapping it with a mallet while it rested on a pipe (so the bearing could go through), but it didn't budge. Before I apply more elbow grease, any thoughts? I'm a bit worried that maybe the tight fit is the reason the original failed, and a replacement won't fix it....

I managed to push it out with a soft hammer and a vise (I protected with fabric before). It was quite hard but with time I manage to change it.

I wonder why they didn’t send you one already mounted on the plastic part…

Does anybody know, what material that plastc-housing is ?  And any idea, why prusa does not use a printed part??

(Asking because i ordered 2 Vesconite bearings and i tend to print my own housings in PC)

Sorry, I should have updated this thread! Prusa said that it's just a pressfit, so a bearing press (arbor press) likely would have worked, but they were nice enough to send me an entire new housing w/ the bearing mounted in it anyway.

Should note, the housing (at least for me) is metal - almost certainly aluminum - both the old and new part.

I’m wondering if they will sell the entire assembly eventually.

Dis you ask them?

Hi, i got my conversion kit today, and one of the bearings is not rotated the correct way. Prusa will send me an replacement.  I also printed spare-housings out of PC because, as mentioned above, i will try the vesconite bearings too.

I'm wondering: why  prusa uses aluminium for the housing anyway ? (or the other way around, what might point out against a printed part ?)

one of the bearings is not rotated the correct way.

Aren't the bearings symmetrical? In which way is it rotated incorrectly?

They have 4 "rows of balls" and should sit on the rod with 2 lines at 45° to each side and not with just one row on top of it.

Thank you, that makes sense. Maybe I should check whether the bearings are seated properly in my Core One -- they are louder than I expected them to be, especially the right one.

Had the same thought.. I made sure to put the Z-bearings correctly into the printed parts, but I'm not sure I checked the Y-bearings..

I have not been able to move/rotate the misaligned bearing yet. It’s so tight.

(Prusa will send me a new bearing-unit)

but I did print 2 holders in pc. Since I received the vesonite bearings yesterday. I might Test this combo first
