I don't think belt expansion is the issue. It's probably more like frame expansion. I would assume the metal frame is expanding when it warms up, pulling on the belts.

Random/crazy thought: Has anybody thought of a CoreXY architecture with dual motors per belt? This would give one degree of freedom for belt tension (putting e.g. a spring-loaded and dampened tensioner mechanism on the non-head section between them to absorb a small amount of slack belt. Especially in combination with an accelerometer for real-time feedback this would enable quite a few advanced dynamic corrections.
Material for a doctoral thesis maybe. Or at least the coffee break...
