Brand new factory built - first print failed #31102

So i ordered a factory build machine, I have built my last 2 and upgrades but didn't want to have to build this one.

No damage to box or contents, easy to assemble. Just had to install UI and orange door handle (fell off during shipping).
Machine booted, firmware at latest.  Performed install test and calibrations, no issues.

Went to print my test print and boom. It faulted.
I checked online and performed the troubleshooting for the code, tried squaring the gantry and tuning the belts.

I have sent support an email with photos of what I think might be the possible issue.
Looks like the top right belt was not properly seated in the gantry behind the head assembly.

Do you mind posting the photos here so we could have a look?

RE:

I agree, that does not look right; it's most likely due to rushed assembly. It is possible to re-seat the bet and clamp it correctly, of course. But that is a somewhat invasive procedure which requires removal of the Nextruder unit.

See the instructions here -- scroll down to the sub-heading "Extensive adjustment of gantry and belts":

RE:

Just FYI, this happens to be the part where the Prusa "follow instructions like G-code and eat Haribos" concept goes down in flames if moon and stars happen to be out of alignment.

Assemble the belts with the idler wheels removed (it's trivially easy to put them back in but there are multiple cases where the thread got ripped out from excessive tension on the belts). Use common sense for belt length. You'll need to get those belts (reasonably) tight which is simply impossible if you hook a too short end into the Nextruder, just following instructions. Alternatively, repeat everything once more, just one little bit wiser...

And, take care of adjusting the gantry, with idlers removed (see "appendix" to instructions). It is an essential build step, feels "ugly" but is really easy as long as idler pulleys are removed. I believe for some units it goes again out of alignment under tension. In this case be prepared to take note of the misalignment, unlock idlers on the assembled printers and re-bend until it's perfectly perpendicular under belt tension.

All infos at the best of my knowledge. For "guaranteed success" follow manual religiously and eat Haribos 🙂

I've built units before and replaced belts so won't be that hard, juat agitated on a pre-built unit.

PS and consider flashing recent RC firmware (6.3.4 works for me, didn't try 6.3.5 yet myself) for the belt tuner feature.

Flashing back the release version is just a matter of minutes. The strobe belt tuner makes worth that effort a hundred times.

Version 6.4.0 RC is the one with the stroboscopic belt tuning, right?

ok, went back and loosened all belts, moved gantry to center and squared it manually (I bent it back square).  Tightened belts using the tuner and still no joy.

I then flashed it with the 6.4.0-RC and presto. It passed the Y calibration and printed my test keychain print.

Thanks you all for the suggestions.
