Brand new Core one - How to fix if door isn’t closing properly?

Hi, just unboxed my brand new Core One and the door does not close properly. The lower magnet snaps in however the upper does not. I checked already if the magnet is missing inside of the mounted part but is there. It holds to the orange door handle properly if I unmount it and attach it directly. Mounted to the frame it does not hold the door.

Any advice?

Check the following:

  • the hinge pins are seated correctly
  • the door is mounted correctly in the top and bottom hinge grooves
  • the door is secured with screws on both hinges
  • if the insulation gaskets applied top and right side of the door frame are overlapping (at the top right hand side). If so, cut off the overlapping piece
  • if the screw located at the frame's top right hand side (behind the door) is screwed in fully.  That also applies to the screw for the magnet part.

Well thanks for the hints so far.

Okay I now swapped the door orientation according to the provided manual. It closes properly with the magnets and I can hear the click of the door sensor as well. Proper door closing and all the points mentioned should be part of the quality check after assembly.

Now it shows the door closed however as soon as the chamber gets temperature while printing it interrupts the prints because the door is recognized open even if it’s still closed.

Is there a manual to adjust and calibrate the door sensor?
For now I had to bypass the sensor by fixing it with some tape. Otherwise printing is not possible.

Is there a manual to adjust and calibrate the door sensor?

Sure. You can observe the current switch reading under Info > Sensor Info > Door Sensor, and can find illustrations on where to adjust it here. The adjustment is actually less critical if the door hinge is moved to the right, since the door will move fully away from the switch as soon as you open it a tad.

Edit: I recommend disabling the door sensor in software anyway. What's the point of interrupting the print every time you open the door? The most recent firmware 6.3.3 makes a disabled door sensor the default setting too.

First thing I did, disable the sensor in the menu. You really don't need it

Okay thank you.
Meanwhile I managed to adjust the screw to move the sensor out further. It never recognized the door open without being really open again.

Usually I never open the door during my prints. I guess that’s the whole meaning of a closed chamber with controlled temperature. Opening it makes the whole idea senseless but I understand what you mean  sometimes it’s necessary to do it.

What’s left is a bad out of the box experience if you first print gets interrupted over and over again just because of the door sensor requires a little adjustment.

I understand that the original out-of-the-box experience was even more irritating, namely the door not closing properly? That might point towards the whole frame being distorted a bit, possibly due to a knock during shipment. I take it that you have carefully examined the frame for damage and did not find any dents, right?

If you have a machinist's square around, you could also check the various frame corners for proper right angles. The laser-cut steel profiles which Prusa use for the frame are cut and bent quite precisely, so after assembly the frame should be pretty accurate.

RE:

Are you sure that the metal plate that holds the screen, at the bottom of the frame, is perfectly flat ?

Mine was bend and it didn't close at the bottom (yours is not closing at the top).
