Bad seams with eSUN PLA+

When printing multiple gridfinity boxes simultaneously with eSUN PLA+ and the HF0.6 nozzle I get bad seam issues. I use the eSun filament profile. What can I do to fix this?

This looks to perhaps be a seam placement issue. I suspect it is set to 'nearest', you may want to change it to 'random'.

Note: I've had similar issues, in the past, with a number of different filaments, and that was always the issue, when dealing with 'Speed' prints. Changing it to Structural or to 'Random' always seems to fix it, for me.

RE:

Seam placement was set to the default which is 'Aligned'. I will try to use 'Random' for my next print. Thanks

RE: Bad seams with eSUN PLA+

I've found that with a 0.6 mm nozzle, the standard seam gap of 15% is way too high. The pressure advance value is well tuned for edges, but it seems (lol) to basically stop the filament flow exactly at the 15% gap at seams, resulting in that gap at higher speeds.

What I did for my Phaetus 0.6 mm SiC nozzle: set the seam gap to -5% and keep the pressure advance value stock.

You could also reduce the acceleration value for "while retracting". That will slow down the print head during seams to not rip the flow apart, creating a gap.

Armed with these suggestions I did some experiments. Random seams help, but still produces gaps. The best results I got with

  • Seam gap distance: 0% (default is 15%)
  • Seam position: aligned (default)
  • Maximum acceleration when retracting: 1200 (default is 2500)

The seam is now a nice, hardly noticeable line. Note that these results are with eSUN PLA+ Cold White, 0.6 nozzle and 0.32 speed layer height setting.

Thanks!
