RE: US tariffs on imported Items

So uh possible 50% tariffs on EU for US customers starting June 1 unless the EU makes whatever Trump considers to be a fair trading deal... My order is supposed to ship out June 2. Hopefully this is just a scare tactic, but given the past half year, I'm not so sure.

I didn't get a bill, but I have an account and first saw the charge on my credit card; there was an invoice marked paid on my account when it finally processed fully a few days after. I forget whether I had the printer yet on the initial CC alert, as they kept delaying delivery. I had the printer when it processed. It is my understanding that without an account you'll have the printer before you get a bill.

@cjd, Did you get the bill for the tariff from FedEx after they delivered the printer or before?

FedEx final invoice was $124 and change, received a couple weeks ago. The 90 day pause won't change anything here that I know of.

I received my printer about two weeks ago and yesterday received an invoice from Fed Ex Express for $186 and change, completely unexpected. This for a Core One, advanced filtration system, and a nozzle. This certainly gives the lie to these tariffs not being taxes on us.

"Donald Trump is putting pressure on the US. The US president has set a deadline in the tariff dispute with the European Union: He wants a negotiated solution by July 9. Otherwise, the US threatens massive tariffs on European products." (EU-Commission, 27.06.25)

Isn't it too risky for the US-Customers to let their open orders continue?

I bought from Printed Solid. The Core One was in stock and yes it cost more, but just about the same if you add tariffs and shipping to the purchase from Prusa. It also arrived in a few days. I decided that I wanted the assurance of knowing how much it is rather than a surprise tariff bill.

Regards,

Mark

Backed out of the Core One kit and modified my order to an MK4S kit. My Core One kit was estimated to ship between July 3rd and 9th. Didn't want to risk paying 50% tariff on it. The MK4S kit is less than the $800 threshold for tariffs. This will be my first printer. Will likely pick up an MMU3 in a separate order later and still come to close to the same pre-tariff price of the Core One kit. I did not want to pay an extra $500 for nothing.

The blackmailer in the White House is now threatening Europeans with a 30 percent import tariff starting August 1.

He apparently doesn't realize that this will primarily affect you, US citizens.

So it won't affect you if the US people stop buying European stuff because it's too expensive?  Last time I checked European stuff was already more expensive than from pretty much anywhere else.

Tariffs almost universally harm all parties involved.

Taxing Prusa printers on import makes them more expensive to U.S. residents than it makes them to others that seek to compete with U.S. residents in the global marketplace, thus giving a leg up to people in Europe, Canada, Mexico, etc.

But U.S. residents can just buy from other countries, like China, right? Well, if there were no import tariff on China, then sure, the U.S. can harm Europe and tie themselves to China, an adversary. Except there is a tariff on China too. Again, this puts U.S. residents in a disadvantaged position relative to the rest of the world.

Okay, so this is good for American companies that sell locally-made 3D printers at least, right? Again, not so fast. The vast majority of the components that go into 3D printers are much more difficult to manufacture in the U.S., from motors to microchips. Thus, all of those components are taxed when imported, and these U.S. 3D Printer manufacturers have to recoup that cost when they sell their printers. And since they're paying more than the rest of the world for the same components, they can't be price-competitive with other countries outside of the U.S., and are going to have a hard time doing so even in the U.S.

So sure, it's bad for Europe that the U.S. will import less from them. It's also bad for the U.S., though. Short-term it's probably harder on the EU, but the longer this nonsense goes on the worse the outlook for the American economy in the global marketplace.

I agree it's bad for all. I just think we need parity on trade with whoever it is.  I work for a US company that sells machines worldwide, and when we sell to places other than the US the Tarrifs, VAT, or whatever cost associated with importing hurts us. It makes us more expensive than we already are.

RE: US tariffs on imported Items

Well - As said. Not only printers from the EU will be more expensive in the US. The same will be true for printers from China (BambuLab, Elegoo, Anycubic, Creality and so on). Even printers fabricated in the US will suffer from the import ban on parts and metals needed for construction. In the end the people that like 3D printing in the US will suffer the most, because all the printers will become a lot more expensive. The people in the EU will not have to suffer, because all those brands I named before will stay at the same price level, and even Prusa printers will not go up in price.

I really feel bad for the 3D printer enthusiasts and professionals in the US, that are caught up in this madness...
