Upgrade MK4S to Core One ... Spool holder location

Hi,

The location I have available for the printer will have almost zero clearance on the right side of the printer to access the filament on the right side.

Must the filament spool holder be mounted on the right side ?  I looked through the assembly directions and there is no mention of using either left or right side.

In order for this upgrade to work for me I need filament NOT on Right side or rear. My options are left side or top.

Anyone knows how to get around this ?  I don't want to order the kit and not be able to use it.

Thanks

I’ve seen several mods on Printables.com to move the spool holder to the top.

You can't directly swap the side panels and move the spool into the recess on the left side. The left side pocket is not as deep as the right one. (The whole printer is a bit asymmetrical, going back to the asymmetric placement of the nozzle on the left side of the Nextruder.)

Also, the pivot point for the arm which guides the filament PTFE tube to the print head is in the back right, which favors filament introduction from the right side. But you can use a longer tube in your build to give you more flexibility.

Placement on either the left side or above should not be a problem in principle. But in either case you need to provide your own solution for mounting the spool. Maybe an opportunity to get a dryer or drybox and print directly from that?

Just run a long PTFE tube to wherever you can place the spool. Simplest is a roller style spool holder or a dry box. One of my Cores is fed from a wall mounted RepRack.

One thing to consider is filament run out. The core pushes the filament only an inch or so back when it detects a filament runout so you'd still have to be able to access it.

I keep my most used colours above the printer in storage boxes with desiccant, and use a longer tube to feed the printer.

You can just see the edge of a PTFE coupler on the side of the the printer - I unplug the 'live' PTFE tube from there, as it makes feeding filament into the printer, or pulling out, easier......

If I do go for the INDX system then I'll keep all my spools in the same place on the shelves above the printer. Not decided yet as I have a H2D in my outbuilding for any multicolour stuff as it currently has 13 colours all loaded up, making it easier to print from as saves having to load/unload filaments! I also have a Vortek system coming - even though I think INDX is better overall, I want to wait for the INDX system to settle before I consider whether I need it or not.....
