Thank you for this forum

Not really a rant, but more for amusement. I really appreciate the people here, the very knowledgeable ones, and equally the not so much (of which I am one of). At least those coming here without experience seem to ask well thought out, legitimate questions (mostly 🙂 - however I also have a Bambu P2s arriving tomorrow just because it was cheap and its always nice having more than one of a thing lol. So I joined a couple of Fakebook groups and MY GOD IN HEAVEN, the questions asked there make me want to stick a fork in my brain. Barely better then "Do you turn the printer on when you try to print?" EVERY SINGLE ONE! - I have a physically restrain myself from verbally abusing the mindless, simpletons that seem to be drawn to those groups.

So THANK YOU, Prusa users, thank you for not being the sheep that graze around the bambu fakebook groups that make me want to suicide myself.

You're welcome, I guess... And if on your journey to 3D printing you ever feel the urge to bang your head against the printer, Prusa may have what you need - solid oak makes this (presumably) a unique and satisfying experience.
And if you're not there yet, the Core One will even do the headbanging for you! No extra charge, comes with the firmware.

Ha, funny. Thanks. Seriously though. There are some really helpful people here. I have stolen more gcode and good ideas from posts than I ever thought I would use.

So which end of the filament goes into the printer? (I had someone ask me that once)

Both. Wait time differs, though.

I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

Internet was a lot better a few years ago, at least for many hobbies and interests with the community run forums. Nowdays you have to live through the "fork in brain feeling" every day instead, its wild out there 🙂 Im also glad a few good places still exists..

Yeah I only really use Reddit, for social media...and that's through necessity rather than choice.
Honestly some of the questions I read on there...the answers are often so completely wrong it's amusing.

I'm by no means an expert, and often I get stuck on something so my normal approach is:

1. Prusa chat, often the best and quickest way to resolve a problem...however they're not always able to help.
2. Here, very knowledgable users on here...my only real complaints are the lack of users, and the god awful forum software.
3. If I get no solution through Prusa support or on here, and I'm in a rush...my last resort is to try Reddit and filter out all the nonsense solutions.

I find the signal-to-noise ratio on Reddit pretty unbearable. I don't have an account and never go to the site directly, but the discussions sometimes come up in search results. As you say, the combination of strongly held opinions and cluelessness can be amusing; but it's not a place where I would want to look for answers.

The only thing Reddit has going for it, as far as Prusa printers are concerned, is that Prusa themselves are active there -- in contrast to here, in their own forum. Which I find quite disappointing per se: Instead of adding value to this forum, Prusa's priority is to go where the loudest noise is.

The support and the Prusa community are a definite win in the Prusa camp! Much better then anywhere else.

RE:

Back in my Mk4 days I was hanging out on Reddit. FB was even worse in that it wasn't at all moderated. The bad advice I was getting was in hindsight comical. Now that I find my self comfortable in sharing what I've learned with others, I'll occasionally bounce over to Reddit and what I read there is like anti-knowledge. I feel more stupid after I stop reading the posts.

On here there are maybe, IDK, 6 or 7 of us actively posting? Would be interesting to know how many people are around who are read only mode. If they learn something from us then I feel satisfied.

Yeah it's a bit frustrating the lack of presence from Prusa on here.
There are some things that their support wont help you with, custom gcode etc. which is understandable,  and what with the tiny user base on here (comparatively speaking), sometimes there is no other option.

Agreed - being an 'Official Prusa Forum' you would have thought more Prusa staff would be on here rather then reddit.......seems logical......to me anyways......

Yeah, the custom g-code bit was super annoying. When I was having the bed probe/nozzle cleaning issues after I first built the printer. I wasn't on this forum yet. Support kept giving me the run-around. When I asked "Is there a way to work-around this with g-code?" the response was "We are not allowed to provide you with g-code patches" In frustration I ended up here... The rest (as they say) is "history".

What's fascinating is the type of people you run across on here.

  1. The clueless - will keep asking the same questions again and again even after given a workable solution
  2. The stubborn - will keep insisting they were correct even though they were demonstratively proven to be wrong. Then will go of into an extend sulk.
  3. The helpers - no explanation needed
  4. The trolls - posts only to call someone an idiot then crawls back under his bridge
  5. The drive-by - will post a question only to disappear and never to been heard from again
  6. The lurkers - been a member for years, logs in regularly, has zero posts

Not just here. These definitions can be applied to almost any social media site, discussion forum, etc. Still very true.
