Tariffs on Prusa MK4S under $800 in the US?
Hi everyone, I’m new to this and could use some help. I live in the US and I’ve been looking at ordering a Prusa MK4S. I read somewhere that orders under $800 don’t get charged tariffs, but I’m not sure how it works. The printer is $729 and with $62.49 shipping it comes to about $791.49 total. Would I still have to pay any tariff fees on this, or would it be exempt since it’s under $800?

The de minimis exemption (under $800) is scheduled to August 29, 2025.
There is a lot of uncertanty about what will actually happen on/after August 29th.
If you can afford the tariffs/ custom charges, I would go ahead and order the printer.
That way you will be prepaired in the case you have to pay the tariffs, and pleasently surprised if you don't have to pay.
If you want a assembled printer then you can order it from printedsolid.com to avoid the uncertainty about tariffs.
Tariffs and limits have been changing fast recently and continue to do so; I doubt any here could give a definitive answer. Whilst you are historically correct you are best advised to consult your government websites and pick your moment.
Cheerio,

I don't think "Susan" is looking for replies here, but rather is getting ready to add a spam link to her signature. The post seems to be just a lazy rewrite of an older post in the General section of the forum.

On this subject, I don't know what other countries are doing, but starting today, the Swiss post has stopped accepting packages to the US, irrespective of their value, until they know what to do with them...

Mine is en route to me right now and DHL is demanding over 250 bucks in duty to let it go…

DHL is passing along what the new US government policy is demanding. FedEx likely would be around the same amount. It's expensive for them to process all this for individuals, so I'm sure some of that cost is specific to the shipper.
Foreign postal services absolutely are not set up to process tax for US citizens, so no surprise they're balking/halting service. That doesn't mean they haven't been trying to find a solution either, just that they don't have one right now. Expect new businesses to step in with solutions, and expect them to be even more expensive.
None of this should be a surprise for anyone who paid attention to promised policy back when there was a choice to be made. It's been covered in the news since, so lots more opportunity to learn about it.

A bit late for the OP but my advice is not to cut it close on the import date and ordering on the 23rd would have been too late. It's supposed to be the day it's received (not shipped) in but in reality it's whenever customs feels like processing it that counts. I got mine in April, payed like $150 tariff. Who knows what happens when you actually receive it, they're playing Calvinball with tariffs.

Just recently got a Core One (kit). I calculated the shipping and what people were generally being slapped with in terms of tariffs (people were reporting in the range of something like $120-150), I just decided to get my kit from Printed Solid even though it still worked out to be slightly more expensive. Given what people were reporting with longer shipping times and receiving banged up packages, I decided it just wasn't worth the drama. Highly recommend everyone in the US do the same for as long as the tariff chaos goes on.
