Stream to OBS, or monitor on VLC or even web browser with Buddy3D with RTSP in local network?

I have been trying to post this in feedback board in Prusaslicer app, where Prusa connect gives us the chance,
But for 4 weeks it doesn't show, all it says is ,, under moderation'' and afterwards it disappears forever, so I will post it here. A feature request!

Proposition: Camera should be able to stream to our OBS, or VLC, over local network, so we can stream, or monitor live, from PC, or other devices.

Since You added RTSP, I think a lot of us would much prefer to have it like that, over local network, rtsp streaming to PC to web browser/obs/vlc, etc.

OBS can enable us to stream on some online platforms, while VLC, or other apps would allow to monitor and troubleshoot prints.

Many more uses with this feature...

Cheers!

P.S. I have some good observations about firmware issues, that need to be adjusted, to prevent sh**ty nozzle cleaning fail. If someone knows good place to give that feedback to Prusa, would be nice to hear it!

I hope this text will help You connect Your camera to livestream in OBS Studio or VLC Player.

Step 1:
You need to pick up Your camera IP address, and enable RTSP streaming. You can do that via Prusa mobile application.

a) Choose Your printer.
b) Select Camera

c) Press on little cogwheel to enter camera settings.
d) Scroll down, to toggle ON RTSP stream on local network.

e) Scroll further down to locate Your camera IP on local network. (example: 192.168.1.5) You will need that address to configure in OBS and VLC.

Step_1_app

Step 2.  Setting up OBS stream

a) After launching OBS, You need to press ,,+" in Sources.

b) Choose ,,Add Media Source"

c) Create new, and rename to desired title aka Buddy 3D Camera or something else. (Leave ,,Make source visible" toggled on!)

d) In new window that pops up, You need to untoggle ,,Local File'' to be able to add Network media source.

e) In ,,Input'' field, You need to write Your Camera address, (which we looked up in Prusa App), and type it in this format:  (example) rtsp://192.168.1.5/live

Step 3. VLC settings for MacOS

a) Enter VLC Media Player menu in top left corner, and press ,,Settings''.

b) Press on ,,Show all'' to expand advanced settings.

c) Scroll down and expand: ,,Inputs/Codecs'', and expand ,,Demuxers''

d) In dropdown menu of Demuxers, press ,,RTP/RTSP'', and toggle ,,Use RTP over RTSP (TCP)'', than press SAVE!

e) Last step is crucial. You need to allow VLC to find and communicate with devices on your local network. Enter MacOS System settings/Privacy & Security/Local Network. And toggle on permission for VLC Player.

f) This step is straightforward: Go to menu: ,,Files'' and click ,,Open Network''.

-In URL field paste camera network path we have. (example - rtsp://192.168.1.5/live) and Click on ,,Open''

*OBS For Windows is same! (Allow app trough firewall if You don't see image)

**VLC for Windows is more straight forward, so I will not go into much details. Also, allow app to go through firewall, if You encounter problems:

Steps are:

Settings -> Input/Codecs -> Show all(Bottom left corner) -> Input/Codecs -> Demuxers -> RTP/RTSP -> Use RTP over RTSP (TCP)

*** NOTE: When restarting printer and Camera, this might change Camera IP address if Your router is using DHCP.
To prevent this, You need to reserve IP address for camera in Your router settings.

If You don't know how to do this, It may happen that You need to redo Step 1 (Finding new IP address of camera) and in OBS and VLC, need to input new IP address like You did in Step 2 > e) for OBS; and Step 3 > e) for VLC.

Good morning,
Ideas are often best added to the prusa slicer github page where the developers hang out...  I have never tried the Feedback option myself.

I see no point in streaming; a still picture update every ten minutes is more than enough for monitoring.

firmware issues, that need to be adjusted, to prevent sh**ty nozzle cleaning fail

Dry your filaments.

You can already do all of this, there is a separate thread with details on how to get to the RTSP stream on the local network. "Bob's your uncle".

I've been streaming my buddy cam to both my laptop and 4K "TV" for days without issues. The player on my laptop was literally playing for days continuously.

It's not about the wet filament, it is about when You cancel purge process early, it doesn't do final retraction, like when it does at 100%, so it leaves filament in extruded position, so there is a lot of filament left to ooze.

Since the topic is same, I hope You don't mind to copy Your answer from that thread here?

I've been trying this for weeks, since latest camera update, and it didn't work for me... I tried it today with same settings and I managed to make it work for my OBS, but, VLC is doing some funky business still, it just declines to play it, no matter what I do for settings ( rtp over rtsp, etc.).

I will look further into it.

If I manage to succeed in making it in VLC in MacOS, I will post further details here.

Thank You for Your answer!

So why cancel the purge?

Why not?

Example, I am purging Polypropylene, which is notorious for mixing with other plastics. It often doesn't purge enough on first try, so I click Purge more...
Purge more is a process that purges for a long time, so If I see plastic colour is good, or I deem PP is out, or is in any other way good enough, I expect that I can press STOP, since they added the option.
It just doesn't do that final retractions to clean filament from the nozzle. And it oozes, which leads to nozzle cleaning fails. I see it happening on other forums, FB posts etc.

Just let the purge complete - or if it's a change of polymer purge even more, perhaps three times to be sure you've cleared the nozzle - the ratio of extrusion length to filament is about 20:1 so you'll waste a few centimetres at most.
