"Stealth Mode" - more than just reduced speed/acceleration?

Hi,

does someone of you know more about the Stealth Mode? I can't really find any good source of information but there seems to be more to it, than just the values in the Slicer for Speed/Accel./Jerk Limits.

When making all values for Normal Mode & Stealth Mode identically, the motors in Stealth Mode are still quite a lot quieter.

I meant to read they would be driven with reduced current in Stealth Mode. Which should be somewhere in the firmware code?

Anyway, my real question about this: What are the speed and acceleration limits with the reduced current and could I damage the motors, if I put the standard normal values into the Stealth Mode settings?

I'd think I might get dimensional inaccuracies, due to the motors not keeping up. But I can't imagine other issues?

In stealth mode the firmware reduces "noisy" things, like fast acceleradtions etc.

It's the Prusa name for the 'StealthChop' feature of the Trinamic motor drivers, you can find white papers and higher level descriptions on the Analog Devices website.

According to this support page, that used to be the case for older Prusa printers. The newer printers seem to implement Stealth Mode differently, namely by limiting speed and acceleration. I assume the change was made because using Trinamic's StealthChop means that crash detection no longer works.

Sweet, that means I can enable it on my Mini safely! Thanks for the link to the support page!

Franky, I found Stealth Mode utterly useless on all of my printers as either it didn't change the noise level meaningfully or the printer was already fine noise wise.

Thanks for all your replies! Seems like I'll have to check my custom  settings for normal and stealth mode. Maybe I've overlooked something and they really should sound identically, when using the same values in the slicer.

With the Core One, the main difference are the "bass punches" during acceleration and the "whoop" during the 350 mm/s travel moves.

I mainly print single objects and found that 136 mm/s is the quietest speed in any direction. Less resonance noise than at lower speeds and less raw noise, than at higher speeds. Setting even the travel speeds to just 136 mm/s makes my prints a lot quieter, while only raising the print duration about 2 minutes per hour of printing (or less).

But I'm using the printer just a meter apart from my desk and the wall to my partner's desk is just some 6 cm thick "paper wall" that resonates like a drum, when one of us plays music.

Not the average situation I guess, but that's why I'm happy to sacrifice some print duration for less noise.

With my mk3s, stealth mode got rid of the "R2D2 sounds" from the motors, even at very low speeds.
