Recommended accessories to get with Core One?

Hi. I’m a long time Prusa Mini owner who has been printing casually (PLA and PETG) with the stock gear that the Mini came with.

Having dabbled in printing for a few years and enjoying it I’m now strongly considering adding a Core One to my “tool kit”. When I do so, I’m wondering what you would recommend I consider getting as some initial accessories or add-ons, and perhaps a bit about why you’d recommend them.

For example, when getting a larger volume printer is it recommended to get a/some larger nozzles?

I realize that some recommendations may depend on the kind of prints I’ll be doing. I don’t know exactly what they will be now of course, but it will be range of everything from useful to decorative, mostly indoor items but some outdoor too. This is just to say feel free to share advice like “If you think you’ll be printing  X, then you should consider getting Y.

Thanks!

RE:

Some of my recommendations. This is what I would consider a basic list.

  1. Filament dryer
  2. Filament drybox(es)
  3. Accelerometer kit
  4. ASA filament (Since you want to print outdoor stuff)
  5. Advanced Filtration kit
  6. Prusa PC-CF filament (for spare parts)
  7. 0.4mm ObXidian High Flow Nozzle
  8. 0.6mm ObXidian High Flow Nozzle
  9. Buddy camera (if not included in your Core One purchase)
  10. BIQU Cryogrip Pro Glacier Print Sheet
  11. Nozzle Wiper
  12. CORE One belt-tensioner replacement
  13. Filament Guide

Hi @hyiger, I agree with everything on the list (I have a 4 rolls dryer and vacuum bags to store the rolls when not in use) but I'd like to hear your reasons for n8. I've been printing for years with the 0.4 and never had the need for the 0.6, but I may have missed something 😀 cheers

Never used one personally, but it's for quicker, big prints.

Obviously they won't look as good, but for applications where appearance isn't of paramount importance.

I did this originally, but now I would recommend nothing. Get the printer, use it, and pick up additional parts as and when, of if, you need them. You'll know what you want or need as you gain experience and grow with the printer. I've made this mistake many times and end up with tons of spare parts and accessories that I never touched, and later resold at a loss.

I use the .6mm for large prints where I don't care so much about detail but need/want to save time. Furthermore, if I need to crank out something quickly to check for fit or look-and-feel, then I'll use an 0.8mm in 0.5mm layer draft mode. Then switch to either 0.6 or a 0.4 depending on the part. The other advantage of using a larger nozzle is much better layer adhesion and stronger parts (at the expense of detail). I'm not going to print a purge bin (to use a simplistic example) with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.10mm layer height. I'll use 0.8mm and .40mm layers (for example).

Also, I have the same set of nozzles (hardened 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) but not high flow for filaments that could be prone to clogging. Like TPU/Wood. Also, ironically, the "slower" filaments such as TPU, PP and PC work better with larger bores and non high-flow.

My nozzle inventory:

E3D Obxidian HF: 0.4, 0.6

DiamondBack: 0.4, 0.6, 0.8

I agree in principle, except for the filament dryer and dry storage (unless you live in a desert) which I consider an absolute must. Too many people leave this out and run into problems later with wet filament.

Pattex to attach feet and door handle permanently. A chopstick to extend the swing arm so the umbilical doesn't jam.

RE: Recommended accessories to get with Core One?

I got the Core One and when needed added. I suggest learn as you go. It ran fine out of the box for PLA/PETG. Over 10 months I have added:
A diamond back .4mm normal flow nozzle. For PC-CF etc.
Accelerometer for tunning,
Modified belt tensioners with threaded inserts.
Something to stop the cable sag.
Nextruder mainplate mod for better handling of TPU.
Squash ball feet, I wanted to raise it for drawers underneath.
I moved my MMU3 and Nextruder updates from my MK4S to the Core One after about 8 months.
I already had dry box and dryer.
Most things aren't that hard to get. Except the Prusament PC-CF seems to always be in short supply. I also carry thermistor and heater spares for the Nextruder.

@vhubbard, did you get equivalent performance from the MMU3 on the CoreOne as on the MK4S ? I have been hesitating to take this step as I've got my MMU3 working pretty well where it is, and I'm afraid to encounter unexpected gotchas if I move it.

Prusa Core One, MK4S w/ MMU3 (formerly MK4 / MMU3, MK3S+/MMU2), 2 Prusa MINI+, Octoprint. ASA, PETG, PVB, (some) PLA.

RE: Recommended accessories to get with Core One?

If interested in small prints, the 0.25 mm nozzle makes a significant difference. It hasn't given me any trouble with PLA and ABS, ASA clogging from heat creep (easily drilled out from the top) was probably fixed by configuration.

A 2 mm drill, just in case...
