RE: Recommended accessories to get with Core One?

No one has done an exhaustive study on accelerometer vs. defaults. But read between the lines. Setting up a calibration unit, running tests, avoiding hypothetical mistakes that could horribly mess up everything makes for bad narrative. "It's the same for each printer, it will never change, we do this for you AND you can buy the accelerometer cheaply to do it yourself" will obviously scare less prospective buyers.

It's €20 and five minutes of your time for the confidence that those two calibrations are spot-on. A no-brainer, in my book.

Just be aware of forum bias. The vast majority of Core One owners don't visit the forums; they don't need to, they don't have any issues to air.  The only accessory I would regard as essential is a dryer - but you probably already have that if you're running a Mini.  Everything else can wait until you have found a need for it.

Cheerio,

Good point, and noted. I know what you mean (especially since I work for a tech company and we have our own forum.)

I actually don't have a dryer so that has been very helpful to learn about how important it is. I will be getting one so I'm open to suggestions on which one or at least what specs to aim for.

There are 5 ways to dry filament (that I can think of):

  1. Set the print bed to the recommended temperature, place the roll on the bed and cover with a cardboard box (the filament box it came in). Let it bake for 6-8hrs.
  2. Use a food dehydrator (second cheapest option after #1)
  3. Purchase a dedicated filament dryer
  4. Use a convection oven but one not being used (nor will ever be used) for food
  5. Microwave the filament (I don't recommend this but some people swear by it)

I personally own the Creality SpacePi X4 which reaches 85C. But then I print with some exotic filaments that require high temperatures and need to be dried before use.

If you are only going to be sticking to PLA/PETG/ASA/TPU then any of the 1 or 2 spool dryers should work fine for you. Creality and SUNLU are good brands. Also, unless you live in a dry climate, then dry boxes are useful for storing filament. I use the PolyMaker dry boxes because they are convenient. However you can also use airtight bags with silica gel packs or plastic cereal boxes or even print your own (there are various models on Printables.

You finally got me convinced ... found a fairly decent offer at MarcMax €139 (DE)

Let's hope it tolerates G-force 🙂

I've tried (and returned to Amazon) 4 different dryers until I settled on X4. I like it because you can dry 4 spools in 2 separate chambers and it has the best UI out of the ones I tried and it's very quiet. For example, I'm doing a print where I need: PC (polycarbonate), i150-PF  and PETG. The i150 and PET-G can dry at the same temp and the PC goes in the other chamber. The only real negative is I occasionally need to print while the filament is drying (in this case Nylon 6 (PA)) and it's bulky next to the printer.

Very much appreciated - realistically I have the  time to fight selected key battles (see "white pills" thread) but not a whole war. Wife would object.

Originally I even set up for humidity-insensitive filaments for that very reason (ABS/ASA). But I start to realize the cost for a drier is trivial, compared to the uncertainty if I could eliminate the problem completely.

I used to live in a very dry environment so didn't need to worry too much. However in the last few years the weather has completely shifted due to (rhymes with) noble swarming. With the exception of PP and PLA (which I seldom print) most of my filaments are water sponges. One of my nylon based filaments (PPA) is unprintable after only 3-4 hrs if I leave it out in the open.

With regard to purchases, I use an application of "girl math". I figure since I've returned a bunch of stuff recently on Amazon, my next purchase is "free" 😎

I am rather happy with the sunlu s4 tha I use to keep the filaments I currently use at the right humidity and printing directly from; I have an older external single dryer that I use to prepare single spools for printing.

Some of my recommendations. This is what I would consider a basic list.

Nozzle wiper

I must admit, I’ve been trying to figure this one out since you first posted it. What exactly does this do and how? (I get the it wipes the nozzle, hence its name, but how does it do that when mounted near the corner of the print plate?)

There is an 20mm area -19 to 0 Y just off the print plate. You can add custom g-code (Start g-code section) to move the nozzle over the wiper. This is what I've developed for my own use:

M117 Wiping Nozzle

G0 X2 Y-16 Z4 F5000;

Personally i very rarely have any issues with nozzle cleaning, i wouldn't bother with mods until issues are concluded. Is it because i remove lose strings manually? I use that extra space to make the print area bigger instead. The accelerometer didnt do much either, mine was silent and had not much vfa from the start, what i would get though is a satin plate, its great
