MK4S upgrade kit - maybe a use for all the upgrade parts I have?
Not seen the upgrade kit documentation yet so cant answer this myself - but, I have gone from MK3 ->MK4->MK4S etc and as a result have a box of 'spares' that are not used after the various upgrades. I am starting to wonder if there is a case to be made for making up a second printer (rather than ripping apart my perfectly working MK4S+MMU3+enclosure) with the upgrade to Core kit using the spares I have and adding additional parts that cannot be reused.
Would that work out more expensive than the full kit? even if it was close I would feel better having used up some of the bits that are currently sat in a box doing nothing.
Thoughts?
RE:
Which parts from the older printers would be usable? They are all non-MK4S parts. But the Core One "upgrade" build will require the upgrade kit plus various MK4S parts.

It may be possible to rebuild the mk3 after going to the core1. By that point you will have the frame left over, and possibly the bed. So you might just need a few rods and a power supply.
RE: MK4S upgrade kit - maybe a use for all the upgrade parts I have?
I don't know what parts as I have yet to see the upgrade manual - that was my point, is there finally something I can do with the "spares" I have accumulated through the various upgrades or not. The answer is more than likely a 'No' but I was putting it out there just in case. Does anyone have a list of the items from the MK4S that are used?
RE: MK4S upgrade kit - maybe a use for all the upgrade parts I have?
But why would you have any MK4S part as a leftover? I can see only two scenarios where that would happen as a result of your prior upgrade path: (a) A part which was used in the MK3, then not used in the MK4 (so you have it as a spare), then was used again by Prusa in the MK4S design (so you got another copy in the MK4-to-MK4S upgrade kit). Or (b) a part which was used twice in the MK3 or MK4, but then only once in the 4S. Both scenarios seem highly unlikely.
Alternatively, check Prusa's price tags on just the major items which will be re-used from the MK4S in the Core One upgrade kit. I trust that you have none of these as a spare:
- Power supply
- xBuddy board
- Touch screen
- Heatbed
- Nextruder
- two Z leadscrews with motors
- two XY stepper motors (0.9° steps)
I have not seen any build documentation or parts list, but am willing to place a big bet that buying the complete Core One kit is more cost-effective than buying the upgrade kit plus individual parts, by a large margin.

I have to agree with you 🙂 .... one day I will find a use for the spares......one day..
