Layer shifting

How do I fix Layer Shifting?

We’ve had our 3D printer (Prusa Core One) for a few months now. Today, it happened twice that during a print, a layer suddenly shifted. In the photo, you can see that the layer shift occurred on the hedgehog on the left; next to it is how it’s supposed to look.

We thought this might have happened because there were some small irregularities on the layer the printer was printing on, causing the placement to shift slightly. However, with such a large difference, that doesn’t seem very likely.

What’s going on with our printer, and what can we do to fix it?

RE: Layer shifting

I would like to add here that it happened twice on the same layer. Despite that, it was possible to print the same design flawlessly between these two errors. Could it then perhaps be due to the design?

The first thing I would do is change the infill pattern.  Grid is likely to exacerbate any tendency to warp which may be causing your model to lift into the head path ...

My instinct is to use cubic fill here but gyroid might also be suitable.

If the print continues to fail turn it over and show us the underside/first layer.

Cheerio,
