Head banging when homing

I have now, for several days, followed the issue with head banging. Various ideas about the cause are mentioned. And people af often refer to what they have heard from support. I think it's time to follow op on this Prusa! Please step up on this now!

1) greasing of linear bearing (with som grease you don't have on stock)

2) make sure everything is aligned

3) make sure you have adjusted the belts to 92 Hz using the current released APP

4) make sure belts are adjusted to 98 Hz and 92 Hz using the new Beta APP!

5) Make sure you haven't not turned the wheel on the stepper motor incorrectly

6) I have now realized its worse when you just turn on the printer. After having been on for long time the issue is not there?

Prusa never replies here. The silence is so consistent that I assume they have a company rule which forbids staff to participate in the forum. Or the level of frustration/resignation among the staff is very high.

But regarding the headbanging in particular, I consider it much less of a problem since zapta's recent find that you can easily tell the printer that you are happy with "inaccurate" homing. (Which is easily good enough for printing. You just lose the ability to accurately resume in the same place after a power outage.)

Just replace "G28" with "G28 I" (capital i) in the Startup Gcode section in PrusaSlicer. The printer will do two taps on the right, two at the front, and be done with it.

What do you mean by "not turned the wheel on the stepper" in 5) ? Haven't heard of that yet.

My printer started banging more and more again after beeing fine for a while now.

Where was this mentioned? I seem to have missed it.....

Great find though!

RE: Head banging when homing

#7 helps a lot with printing,  but doesn't solve the problem, for example, the head keeps banging when I try to change filament (at one time I counted, using a log, 286 head bangs).

This is an on going failure on Prusa part:

1. Failure to add proper end limits if the product specification calls for accurate homing.  (Sensorless stall detectors provide course accuracy of 1 full stepper step).

2. Adding to Marlin an half cooked and poorly implemented workaround algorithm for refined homing. (The corexy_home_refine() function).

3. Not rolling back the faulty algorithm despite very many user complaints. (it's a single line change in the code)

4. Not communicating to the users the status and progress of any work to fix the problem.

One more thing that puzzles me is how this issue is not mentioned in all the CORE One reviews on Youtube, including those like built a CORE One kit criticized the CORE One. Even the 'only' 12 head bangs that the CORE One has on a good day is worth mentioning, and for sure the hundreds of head bangs per an homing operation that some of us here experienced.

My ask to you is to voice your sincere opinion on github and reddit which Prusa people read.

I actually never had the issue to start with then I built my kit. It started after several uses, then I assumed my printer had 'bed in'.

However since the last firmware update it has reduced drastically for me - almost 'normal' However once in a while it does a couple of extra bangs but nowhere near as bad as it used to be.

Still posted on the Github page though as I'd prefer to turn it off completely if I could!

Thanks for voicing your voice.

I was wandering why this issue didn't come up in your Youtube series.  Maybe it's time for a followup?

I could, but Ive really tried to concentrate more on creating a build guide rather than a review - plenty of other YouTubers much better (and more knowledgable) than me doing that!
