Guidance for owners of MK4S w/MMU3, regarding Core One upgrade path?

I own an MK4S w/MMU3, and I ordered the Core One upgrade kit a while ago to get in line early.  The standard kit is not immediately compatible with MMU3, but I ordered early anyway with expectation of announcements prior to shipping, given there has been a lot of expectation on an MMU3 compatible Core One upgrade path(S) to be announced this month, as in April 2025, but this has not happened yet.

Depending on the available upgrade paths, it may make a significant difference in kit price and shipping if packaged and shipped as:

  • a single "MK4S w/MMU3 -> Core One w/compatibility for MMU3" upgrade kit
  • or 2 separate upgrades: the currently available "MK4S->Core One no MMU3 compatibility" kit and then later buying a delta kit, ie "Core One -> Core One w/compatibility for MMU3" kit.
  • or its possible the overall cost including shipping could have negligible difference between a single MMU3 compatible kit or 2 separate upgrade kits purchased at different times.

As of writing, my order has not yet shipped and have opportunity to put the order on hold, but really don't want to if it can be avoided.  I've talked with customer support on this multiple times over the past couple months and no progress.  I explicitly asked customer support multiple times to escalate the request that management provide some guidance but they have not done so.  If Prusa would release a progress update on Core One MMU3 compatibility, that would likely provide the answer I need, but I need to decide very soon whether or not to put my order on hold.

I hope there are people out there that may have insight enough to provide guidance on whether or not I should put my order on hold, which I really don't want to, but there could be a notable price or shipping difference.  Or no significant difference at all, or....  Input appreciated.  Thanks

RE:

This has been covered several times already - the MMU3 you have on the MK4s at the moment WILL be compatible with the Core One. There is no upgrade that makes it core one compatible, other then the brackets used to attached to the printer. So it could be a matter of simply printing off a new set of brackets so that it can sit on the core one.

What does need more work is how it will sit on the Core One. ie will it sit on top with entry in from the top (like their first prototype) - or will it hang from the top rear panel with filament entering into the existing side, etc. I believe this is what Prusa are refining at the moment. otherwise the current MMU3 will work with the Nextruder (which is basically the same a the MK4s anyways).

Hopefully we will hear something soon as we know it's being worked on already. Whether you should continue with your upgrade path comes down to how much you use your MMU3, and whether you can possibly do without it for a while?

I also have the MK4s with MMU3. I have already removed my MMU3 (don't need it for much at the moment anyways) and my MK4s is back to stock. Once my Core One is built I fully intend to mount the MMU3 to it, once Prusa has released full details following their own testing.

Great feedback, thanks for that.  My current dilemma is 2-fold:

I own the printer/mmu, but it is exclusively used and upgraded by my 80 year-old father as an ongoing project for himself (with a massive amount of my time to help him with upgrades...), so ideally sticking to official stock upgrades, and only doing a single complete upgrade (Core One + "official" MMU compat) is best, and probably worth waiting a few additional weeks for availability prior to shipping my current order, plus would probably save a little $ on international shipping as a combined shipment.

But at the same time, my order with all the other things I threw into the cart added up quite a bit, and who the heck knows what's going on with Tariffs, so also do not want to delay my order either.  And if the "official" Core One mmu compat mod kit is only provided as a delta kit that still requires the currently available CO upgrade kit, then there is not much reason to wait anyway.

I was hoping for a no-brainer conclusion on what to do with my order.  I guess I'll wait a bit longer to see if Prusa has any updates, and decide what to do a couple/few days before upgrade kits start shipping.
