I've watched the Jessy and CNC reviews. They're both glowing with praise. The main criticism being the price.

Buyers who care most about price are unlikely to be swayed. But this is a much more affordable printer than the XL and a more competitive printer than the MK4S. I've gotta say I like my XL and I use it a lot, but the Core One should have been released first.

I watched a couple of unboxings and reviews this morning and they all seem pretty good. I'm super excited to replace my ancient (though still fully working) ender 3. I'll end up turning it into a pen plotter or selling it really cheaply/giving it to someone local to me.

I think the "CNC Kitchen" review is the one to watch on Youtube. Stefan did quite a bit of actual printing, assessing speed and print quality for various print sizes and materials. He also ran "blind" quality comparisons with two of his mates, comparing prints from the Core One, MK3, MK4S and Bambu X1C. Based on these, he comes up with a balanced assessment of the Core One.

It's often easier to introduce a new (to the company) technology in a higher-end product first. You don't have to optimize for cost at the same time as getting the new technology to work robustly. And if something does not go to plan, you have fewer customers to take care of -- be it by consoling them for a shipping delay or by providing retrofit kits to fix hardware issues in the field.

Also, I think the higher-end and professional market will become increasingly important for Prusa. With some Chinese competitors no longer competing just on price but also driving some actual innovation (and making it affordable due to large unit numbers and optimized design-for-cost), the mainstream consumer market will be an increasingly difficult playing field for Prusa. They will need to move upmarket, and may deliberately have staked a claim with the XL first.

I also liked the video from Stefan, however I think some of the problem he has faced will be fixed with firmware updates and tuned profiles in the slicer. The more people starting to use the printer, the better the feedback gets.

Yes, it was good to see in the comments that Joe Prusa himself replied about the overhang issue (possibly due to insufficient chamber cooling), pointing out that the fans currently run at 40% max. So there is room for tweaking the settings, and I trust that Prusa will do that. They need to -- this printer really can't be slower or provide worse results than the MK4S or the competing Core XY printers from Bambu Lab.

I'm still waiting for mine, but I expect we will see intake fan mods at the top soon. The problem is that the ventilation opening is at the top and the outake fans too. You don't get the cool air down to the headbed, that would be my guess.

I think that the placement of the fans and air inlet is very deliberate and reasonable. You want to cool the air in the build chamber right where the printing happens (to make sure the filament cools and solidifies quickly). If you wanted the heatbed area to be cooler, just reduce the heatbed temperature?

Why not just leave the door open when printing PLA/PETG?

Why not just leave the door open when printing PLA/PETG?

Two reasons for me:

(a) The ability to "do things properly" and keep the door closed no matter which material you print is one of the differentiating features over Bambu Lab, which Prusa has stressed quite heavily. They even install a door interlock as a standard feature, pointing out the printer's ability to operate with the door closed at all times if you want that for safety reasons (e.g. in an educational or company environment).  It would be kind of embarrassing if this did not work as advertised.

(b) My printer lives in the basement, where temperatures can be on the chilly side even for printing PLA and PETG, resulting in warping. I am looking forward to the temperature-controlled build volume to make that a non-issue.

RE: First Unboxing Videos are live.....

I've actually had warping issues with PLA on my MK4S when printing large square items (ie: shelves), and ended up solving the problem by covering my printer with blankets to keep some heat in. The ambient room temperature isn't even that cold (21C) so I'm not sure why I had warping issues, but am looking forward to the fully enclosed chamber of the Core One.

I have never opened the doors on my enclosures for PLA and I've never had any issues.  I don't design my parts with steep overhangs so the overhang performance is not a big deal for me.

RE: Removing the protective film on Core One is a problem

After watching a few unboxing videos of the Core One, I observed a consistent recurring issue. When peeling off the protective film from the plexi panels on the sides and top, small fragments are wedged under the rivets and cannot be easily removed. Virtually every reviewer mentions this. Being too aggressive while attempting to clean this up can damage the rivets or scratch the plexi. Apparently Prusa anticipated this and includes a package of replacement rivets in the box. However, this can easily be solved. Remove the film in the factory before the rivets are installed. The front door is the same plexi material and it isn’t covered. It may be a minor frustration, but I think it would be one less thing to deal with in an otherwise quick setup.

The rivets are not one time use rivets. You can remove them quite easily from the other side and put them back together. Just nobody bothered to do that. Maybe it could be better described in the manual 😉

RE: First Unboxing Videos are live.....

I guess the conflict here is that the film is meant to protect the surfaces from scratches (also) during assembly, packaging and unboxing. So it's only to be removed by the user.

Apparently the rivets can be removed non-destructively and re-used, they are not disposables: They have a central pin which can be raised by pushing from the inside, then the rivet comes loose and can be pulled out. Not sure whether all rivets are reachable from the inside of the enclosure -- if so, removing (or at least loosening) them before you peel off the protective film might be a solution.

Jurgen: While I agree that "the film is meant to protect the surfaces from scratches (also) during assembly, packaging and unboxing", wny is the door not protected?

RE:

These look like the same pins from the Prusa enclosure.  They are very easy to remove and reuse. Reach around to the inside and push the pin up.  Then the rivet will come right out

RE: First Unboxing Videos are live.....

Most likely because they had to remove the film on the door to add the 'Core one' vinyl stickers.

The reason they probably don't remove the film on the remaining panels is to reduce manufacturing time.
