Core One MMU3 Prototypes

In today's blog post ( https://blog.prusa3d.com/prusa-core-one-january-update-its-just-around-the-corner_108917/), they shared a couple different prototypes for how the MMU might integrate with the Core One. I was curious which of the 2 options people liked better.

Option 1:

Option 2:

I'm curious to hear people's thoughts. I figure not everyone will have the same opinion

Option 1 is terrible - no different to how it is now.

Option 2 is workable, although depends on where the buffer system is? Seems like its under the spools in those cassettes?

Ok - so after reading the actual blog post - option 1 is what they will continue to offer as default.

Option 2 is just a quick mock up of another solution they are working on - it is not something they may even produce. They just wanted to share a picture of it!

I do like the way the MMU3 is covered in Option 1 (it will eventually be a transparent cover thankfully), but I still think I will continue with building the Shark V6 system. Still seems like the best solution to me......

I hope that if they go for option 2, it will be designed to be airtight so it can be a drybox.

RE: Core One MMU3 Prototypes

I mean, who has the space for option 1 (or for what it's worth, the current MMU setup)? On one side of my workshop I have four printers sitting side by side. The only way to feed them is from above. So option 2 would actually work for me. Option 1 and the way they recommend setting up the MMU with a Mk4 requires a WHOLE table.

I prefer option two and would work better with the limited space I have. However since using the SUNLU S4 I've noticed a big difference with some filaments.

This may of been because they were old filaments and needed the constant drying to get to the filament closer to the centre of the reel to dry but either way there was a improvement. So being able to feed from a dryer is preferable if possible which I don't see this mock up being able to do without making it bigger. We will have to wait and see.

I do hope that if they do option 2, it's possible to have the option to either attach directly to the printer or feed the printer through a bowden tube. I am wanting to build a cabinet to put my printers into to organize them, but was figuring I'd have a shelf above the printers for filament. If I could just set an MMU enclosure on there, that would be ideal.

Option one works for me BUT if we have the upgrade path to the option 2 (in future) that would work also. That way a working MMU3 setup is available for the Core one while the future design option 2 design is down the road IF it even happens !

I think everyone is going to ask for Option 2 🙂 Including me.

I'm not going to buy the current MMU3 system - where I live (Ireland), humidity is high all year round - so I want an AMS type system which can also act as a drybox.

Same - I have a shelf above the printer that I'll be using also. Im sure the new solution (whatever it may be) can be placed slightly further up with the use of some PTFE tubing feeding down to the printer 😉

If they could make Option 2....not be so tall that would be my preference. Maybe its just because the printer isn't that tall it feels taller then it is?

Height is a small concern for my setup but will make it work ... whatever format shows up. Lol Progress is great !

Definitely Option 2 if there is not problem with loading a filament .

Not critical for me, but i were to add a MMU3, I simply don't have place for option 1

In option 2, where is the actual MMU3 unit hidden?

Option 1 looks like crap and takes up 2+ times the space as other "popular" multi-color optioned printers. I don't have a Prusa MMU setup, and have no doubts the function is solid, but the form needs to be neat and tidy. Times have changed.

RE:

see the first picture? there is a mmu on the top, so the on the option 2 the mmu is still there, the box with the spools is on it, but spools are moved forward and there is a enough empty space on the back to fit in the mmu behind them.

Or, you could look at it as an opportunity to be creative and develop your own filament management solution...
