Core One design files published

This is probably already mentioned somewhere on the forum, but I could not find a thread about it: Prusa has published the full CAD design files for the Core One and Core One L mechanics. The full CAD assembly for the Core One is here on Printables; there is also a long blog post about the new license model.

Kudos to Prusa for sticking with the open source approach! I hope the new license terms will work for them. They allow personal use and in-house commercial use of the designs (original or modified), but prohibit selling of components (again original or modified).

I am not sure how enforceable that will be in practice, since most of the design will not be protected by patents, and to my knowledge technical/functional designs cannot be protected by Copyright either. So selling a printed or machined part or a functional module which "looks and works practically identical" to a Prusa design is probably going to be legal in most cases, and Prusa just make any copycats' life easier by publishing the design files.

RE: Core One design files published

I downloaded the Core One model a few days ago to have a look (I have a MK4S and might upgrade in 2026).  Is it really the complete model?  It didn't look like the "X" axis had any mounts to slide along the "Y" axis rods.  Perhaps I'm just not making the mounts visible?

The mount is in the model, but (for whatever reason) only on the right Y axis. And the actual linear bearing is missing, probably because it is an off-the-shelf part and they did not have a 3D model for it.

It seems pretty complete, but there are some omissions; no planetary gears in the Nextruder for example. Maybe again due to these being purchased third-party parts for which no model is available?
