Conversion Reversion

Does anyone here know whether it is possible to revert back to a MK4S from a CoreOne?  The hardware can be reinstalled, of course, but what about the firmware?  I would ask Prusa support, but not sure they would even know.  Maybe someone here has tried it?

You can revert firmware. Just click on rotary wheel after you power on your 3D printer and confirm to flash 🙂

RE: Conversion Reversion

Hello!
Yes, it's highly probable you can revert the firmware from a Prusa CoreOne back to an MK4S after reinstalling the MK4S hardware. Prusa officially supports firmware downgrades, and the CoreOne uses many of the same core components as the MK4S. Simply download the desired MK4S firmware from Prusa's website, place it on a USB drive, and follow the standard flashing procedure (usually involving pressing the reset button and then holding/double-pressing the knob during startup). A factory reset after flashing is also recommended.

RE: Conversion Reversion

So... It finally happened, someone want to revert back its CORE One to MK4S. This is an indication of how poorly the issues of the CORE One are managed by Prusa this time. Not a single blog post, not even a follow-up email. Sadly this brand is not premium anymore. 😯

On my side I own both, and I am in no hurry to convert my last MK4S to a CORE One. I even regret to have dismantled my second MK4S+MMU3 and sold the printer alone since the recent announcements on this topic... My initial plan was to convert my second MK4S to a CORE One and mount the MMU3 on top of it. I refrain myself to do this.

@LarGriff what is the trigger for you? VFA?

I don't think he has actually reverted. He just asked the question if it would be technically possible.

No no, I’m not there, yet.  I’m still waiting on my conversion kit to ship.  Just wondering what the options are in case I’m not happy with the Core One, because I LOVE my Mk4s.  I’m mostly nervous about the z-axis, homing, and crash/reboot issues, as well as lack of MMU support.  I got the $100 discount on the conversion, so it’s not costing a whole lot to try, but I want to know that I can revert if I choose to.  There is a boot loader update to the Mk4s that is required before the conversion, in addition to firmware.  Hopefully that won’t prevent the reversion.

Give it a little time.  The Core One is a Pretty awesome Machine.  I am on my second week and very impressed.

As far as I know, that bootloader update is part of the regular firmware updates for the MK4 line. It allows the conversion, but doesn't force it.

lack of MMU support

There is MMU Support, even the official profiles are now available in Prusa Slicer.

RE: Conversion Reversion

There is MMU support, but it's a bit of a tacked on afterthought if you ask me. So much so, that I sold my MMU3 alongside my MK4s - it's just not a good enough solution in my opinion and I await the next gen solution instead in the hope it will 'fit better'. Don't get me wrong. the MMU3 was very reliable for me, and the reduced waste and quicker filament swap times etc are all great - its a great bit of kit - I just don't like the implementation on the Core One, that's all.

Otherwise my Core One has been quite reliable. Only issue is that banging in the corner when calibrating that can get very annoying. Hopefully they will fix that issue sooner rather than later - otherwise it's been good for me!
