Can the Core One use the MMU3 upgrade?>

Hi.

Sorry if this has been covered, I did a search and didn't find anything.

The Core One main page ( https://www.prusa3d.com/product/prusa-core-one) says that is can be upgraded with the MMU3, but the MMU3 pages ( https://help.prusa3d.com/article/mmu3-compatibility_470808 and https://www.prusa3d.com/category/upgrades/) don't mention the Core One on the compatibity lists.

We have a number of MK3S printers and want to add a dual filament and heated cabinet printer.

We don't need the XL so a Core One with 2 or more heads would be ideal.

Can someone point me to a page or document that shows that if I order both, I won't be left with an unuseable MMU3 kit?

Many thanks,

Garry

The MMU is an automated filament changer, not extra print heads or a tool changer (print head swapper), so I’m not sure what you’re looking for.

As Altaic said that's not what the MMU is.

I did a search and didn't find anything.

There have been quite a few discussions on this topic, so digging deeper should have found them. The gist is that yes, the MMU3 *will* be compatible. And the latest version of the firmware adds support for it. https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v6.3.1

However, they haven't figured out yet how to attach it. The way it's done on the Mk4S doesn't work for the Core One. There's a long thread here where people are speculating how it could be done: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/prusa-core-one-general-discussion-announcements-and-releases/core-one-mmu3-prototypes/

TL;DR: It's (supposed to be) coming. It's not here yet.

I assume your looking for a heated chamber printer with multi-filament capacity? The MMU3 as stated above, is an add on to make a prusa printer a 5 filament machine. The Core One however is stated a being MMU3 ready, but there is no official position to locate it currently, with the scope of printable parts for the new fitment location coming soon. The latest firmware is shown to work with the MMU3 as one noteable user has had success with his system. But with regards to buying an MMU3 with a core one, the general consensus is to wait until Prusa announces an official update before proceeding.

I expect to be ordering a Core One late next week.  Crossing fingers that I can order it with an MMU3.   I KNOW I KNOW.  I can hope, ok?

I think it's relatively straightforward to hang it off of the frame and connect via the top, but it's not a 'neat' solution. and the extra PTFE length between the MMU3 selector and the extruder means the existing MMU3 buffer isn't quite big enough to handle all the retracted filament cleanly......

It would be nice if they created a buffer solution that fills the right side spool holder space, and fed into the extruder from the existing PTFE on that side. That way the top cover can be left intact too.....

I had a chat with support a day or two ago to change my order and I asked about the MMU3.

I was told the existing unit would be fine, just the mounting option would differ. The photo that was shared with me (I'll find and post, although I think it's the one from the Prusa release) had the MMU housed above the printer in an enclosure, the buffer solution hung where you suggested on the spool holder then with the filament off to the side.

Hi everyone.

Many many thanks, that is such good feedback!

And sorry, I had just been using an Ultimaker with two actual print heads so though I said 2 heads, I meant two (or more) filament support. 😒

Again, much appreciated the feedback, I will now need to go and work out if we can afford to wait, or look at another solution.

I've got a once a minute page refresh sitting on the Core One assembled page, with a page monitor looking for the text string: "Multi Material Upgrade MMU3 assembled".  I'll get an alert when it happens!
