This is the release candidate for the upcoming firmware 6.4.0 for the Prusa CORE One, MK4S, MK4, MK3.9S and MK3.9.

According to blurb it goes on to say "Builds for XL, MINI, MK3.5S and MK3.5 are temporarily not included due to identified issues currently under investigation."

Confused? - I am!

Prusa originally targeted all FDM printers (except for the HT90, which is a different beast). The 6.4.0 alpha release notes still listed them all. But apparently they identified issues with the older printers which were so fundamental that they decided to take them out of the scope for the RC already. Not sure what the critical technical difference is between the older and newer models -- different stepper motors? Different (x)Buddy board?

The line by 3d-gussner

"The CoreOne L firmware had to be released with the launch. Testing one printer is quite easy and fast."

if true - why has it took so long for the Core One? Seems to have got abandoned around September sometime..

But that's his point: 6.4.0 is not just "for one printer". It is meant to be the unified firmware for all Prusa FDM printers (maybe with the exception of the Core One L now that they have split it out). The RC version already seems to work pretty well on the Core One; it's the other printers, and most notably the XL, which have major problems.

The 6.4.0 alpha (a few days older than the RC version) was the one that broke a lot of configs. The RC version has the exclusions you mentioned as consequence.

Errors do happen and I can live with that, what is really annoying is the lack of a stable release for the core one since july 17th. I know that the RC version is for many "good enough" (I am still running the 6.4.0 alpha without issues), but a lot of users do not want to run preproduction software and I usually follow this rule as well. The alpha install was only done to get the new belt tuner.

I will not start a discussion on the merits of one huge sw package covering a slew of configurations vs. multiple sw branches because, frankly, Prusa will do whatever they want with the resources they have no matter what we discuss here 😀
