RE:
Yes, it works and it looks like the commit history is now up-to-date. Previously it stopped at May 16. I assume because most of the commits are for the Core One L and they didn't want it to leak out before the announcement. In fact it seems that the first Core One L commits where after May which would explain why the history was blocked.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
Sure but they make it about as easy as it could possibly be for them... MK4S, CORE One, CORE One L, all the same motors, same toolhead, same main board, same lcd, etc.
my XL and MK4S are still on 6.2.6, and the Core one 6.3.4. It'll stay that way until I see better feedback on here. I'm still shaking my head that prusa introduced yet another printer line they have to support.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
I compiled 6.5.1 myself and installed it. It adds a lot of new settings in the menus! First impressions are that it is noticeably quieter, my wife noticed it without prompting 🙂
I don't know if it's related, but the Z height after homing is a lot higher than before and there now is a "live adjust Z" menu option....
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
Looks like 6.5.1 has just been released: https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v6.5.1
It is described as "for the Core One L" -- not sure whether it is meant to work on the Core One (and other printers?) as well?
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
From the look of it it seems indeed only for the L (at least officially). I wouldn't be surprised if QA tests were done primarily on the L and, now that the new baby is shipping, the fw can be thoroughly tested on the other printers before releasing it.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
Hmm... Juicy detail? Wonder if that (CAN) could be a hint on connectivity to the INDX...
The CORE One L introduces a new AC mains-powered (120–230 V) heatbed system. This enables significantly faster heat-up times but also requires additional safety measures implemented in the firmware. The bed runs its own firmware on a dedicated processor and is the first device to communicate via the new Cyphal/CAN-based Prusa Universal Bus.
RE:
the CAN bus comment is interesting as, if properly used, it would reduce the cabling complexity a lot. It would be interesting to know if this is present on the core one "standard" or this would require an additional board. Since I tend to be positive, I can't imagine Prusa launching the core one without a way to upgrade to the "future standard" of communication that is part of the new core one L, launched just a few months after...
This remains a huge heap of ifs and speculations 😀
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
The processor on the xBuddy board has CAN capability, but all suitable I/O pins seem to be in use for other functions.

A replacement for that cursed (straight out of the 80's) ribbon cable would be awesome. Would mean changing out the display board.

Not necessarily: technically a little CAN transceiver with a very short ribbon cable from it to the display would work too... but then aspects like manufacturing price of a can bus display adapter vs large scale production of a new display may affect this kind of things. It goes back to what was discussed a while back: as long as Prusa makes their printers upgradeable for a reasonable price, I will tend to stay in their ecosystem. I am not a big fan of "sell the old model to buy the new one" thing.

I'm not sure how long that will continue though. They seem to be ditching that model somewhat with the Core One L. I'm just speculating (of course) but I am thinking next week there will be a Core One S announced (along with the INDX) with a mains bed etc to put it on par with the L. I would be surprised if a kit was offered with that or maybe just a partial kit without the bed changes. I have a feeling that the Core One may be a dead end with regard to future upgrades.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
It would definitely be in line with Prusa's previous offerings if they decided to put the AC bed in a CORE One S (M?), but still offered all of the other upgrades minus the bed. See MK3.5, MK3.9 etc.
I think Prusa themselves (through reddit, X, whatever) have already said there will definitely be an INDX upgrade for both CORE printers. Depending on what the upgrades are, other than the AC bed (if they can't satisfy safety concerns), I can't imagine them *not* bringing whatever future features to the smaller CORE. It's so close to the L in parts I can't think of what wouldn't be compatible. They can sell double.

I'm not holding my breath! Typical Prusa, bring out a new model and forget everybody else because we already got your money.. Guarantee my Core One will be the last Prusa printer I buy mainly due to shortage of developers and snail pace of fixing buggy firmware. Also stupid decisions on what is, and isn't in there - for example park position is fw embedded?! 🤬

Replying to myself: The z-height issue only happened once, all the other prints had no issues. G0 X/Y moves without a speed specified still make the motors skip so anything sliced in Orcaslicer is still a skipfest 🙁
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
Same here. Used to implement vendor SW on a Direct Numerical Control system that, among other things, controlled several OM3 5-axis milling machines and turret lathes, producing parts for FBM re-entry bodies, 24/7. For security reasons, we required the vendor's source code for every release. We locally compiled the release and did a bit compare. No match - back to the vendor.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
And another day without a working firmware? But L Firmware was released. 6.3.4 is a pain, I won't install a RC never ever. I have on all machines so many issues that are open in GitHub that I don't dare to repeat them. Prusa, get going!

I reverted from the RC after it damaged my pristine smooth PEI sheet with two scratches by not retracting when bed levelling! The number of different issues raised on GitHub prove it was never ready as a release candidate and I'm sick of doing dev's jobs for them for free..
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
I'm pretty sure 6.4.0 will be released on Nov 18. The reason it's not being released earlier is that it most likely contains references to the anticipated announcement of the INDX for Core One and (possibly) a Core One S (or something similar).
That said, it was odd that they jumped from alpha to RC without a series of beta's in-between.
RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One
not sure. Why would you pack it in 6.4.4 when INDX is probably a short while to go (another bazillion months) and not into 6.5.0 released earlier? It cries bugs and issues to me...
And INDX is not really a secret anymore

But wouldn't it be quite unusual for Prusa to have firmware for a new product ready on the day they announce the product? Firmware for the Core One and Core One L was only published when the first units were physically on their way to customers. And Prusa have released firmware for other printers in the months preceding the shipment, which apparently did not include any spoilers about the new products.
If I recall Bondtech's blog post correctly, they are targeting end of Q1 2026 for the INDX. Wishful Thinking Dept.: Maybe Prusa, while unable to get exclusivity on the INDX, have negotiated a headstart of a month or two for the Core One variants?
