@jan-kratochvil:

When we'll see a RC2 with all the bugfixes ???

I built a Core One this week that couldn't clean the nozzle with 6.3.4, but passes with 6.4.0 RC. Any idea why this could be? I've only printed for about 1 or 2h so far, but 6.4.0 RC seemed ok, and the belt tensioning wizard is helpful.

Core One is notoriously bad with nozzle cleaning. There have been several actions to help mitigate that in 6.4.0.

Sometimes just retrying will do, sometimes manual cleaning is required first and sometimes extra trickery is required. If filament is prone to oozing, some temperature setting changes etc. might be necessary.

Alternatively can just comment it out (or remove it) and install a nozzle wiper.

Very interesting, thank you! And also unfortunate, because for a newcomer to Prusa machines, it would've been a terrible experience after spending a significant amount of time building the kit. Apart from that, the kit is great. Built two now, and both worked out of the box with 6.4.0 RC, no complaints.

For the record: retrying the nozzle clean didn't work. Machine was pristinely clean out of the box / freshly assembled kit. Filament was fine. The only thing that changed to make it work was upgrading from 6.3.4 to 6.4.0 RC.

Even with 6.4.0-RC you can still get a nozzle cleaning failure (I had one with TPU). However, there is an option now to ignore it and continue.

Wondering if 6.4.0 will be released on the day of FormNext. Just speculating... but maybe they are holding back not just because of blockers but possibly because the new firmware might give clues as to what is next in the product line.

I would expect a release in the next few days, prompted by shipping the Core One L this Friday.

Unless they are holding back on a release because it code for a Core-S (my speculation) or the INDX. But then they wouldn't be shipping that for awhile anyway. Guess you are right. Hoping the fixed some of the show-stopper bugs...

mmmh since it will be a fw + slicer release (core one L support on both) and there are no new tags visible (that usually appear a few days before the official release) in both repos I am not holding my breath. We have seen "single printer" FW released before, so even a new model doesn't guarantee new FW for all printers.

I'm pretty sure Prusa has a private/internal git repo and when they do a firmware release they dump it into the public repo. So you won't see any new tags until the day of release. I suspect this because there are no visible pull requests or commits from people actually working on the firmware.

To continue... I understand why they do this since firmware is the first place people look to find clues for any future products.

Don't really care about a release date as long as they do at least a modicum of testing before shipping it, unlike the "release candidate"….

@foxrun3d that was originally supposed to be called "6.4.0 beta RC" but something happened in the release process and the beta got gobbled up 😉

I'm sure they test internally and most likely have alpha/beta/RC in their internal repo (I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt). When they then dump it onto the public repo, they just pick a tag (I'm speculating of course).

I usually print small stuff from cheap ABS - I wouldn't mind using "alpha" releases as long as there is a reasonable chance of successful prints and the printer doesn't eat itself.

As long as you don't have an XL then you'll be fine. I've been using the "RC" version for a month and haven't found anything seriously wrong with it.

yeah I have an XL, CoreOne and MK4S. I'm waiting for folks on here to tell me things are good before I update. There's nothing must-have in that I've seen in the later firmware versions that I can't wait for.

Core and Mk4S, I haven't seen any issues. The new version definitely helped with the head banging on the Core One.

XL — No way in hell. I am totally convinced no one at Prusa actually ran a single test print on an XL with the RC as the head crash happens. Every.Single.Time. I had to rebuild my belt system, so bad was the crash that it ripped the belts loose.

@FoxRun3D Yikes. I'm getting ready to do maintenence on my XL. Given how much we paid for these things I feel like they've kind of been ignored by prusa for quite a while. That being said, mine has been working pretty well. The last major thing I did to mine is put those obxidian high-flow nozzles on. It just kind of works.

RE: 6.4.0-RC Firmware for Prusa CORE One

I agree. Of all the machines in my small shop (Core Ones, Mk4S+MMU3, Mk3.5) the XL is my most reliable and fun printer. The beginning was rough, but they did a good job with firmware upgrades and a couple of updated components to make it (at least in my hands) very reliable—until the recent RC...
