Top layer: What issue might I be looking at here
Hi there
Using Elagoo matte black PLA, I get some "separating" at the top layer of my latest prints. I am using the basic Elagoo PLA profile in slicer, and all stock settings on 0.2mm balanced print with standard 0.4 nozzle.
I am currently trying to troubleshoot the issue, and thought it might be somewhat common so some of you guys might know what it is. So far, temperature does not seem to affect it all that much. Perhaps z-axis is crooked?
Pictures of the issue:
Curious.
Three possible common causes but none of them obvious or covering the whole area ...
If the under extrusion were more widespread I'd suggest a partial clog. If the pitting, then it would be moisture and there is a slight hint of patterning that would suggest warping.
But none of them are consistent.
So the standard advice applies first - cold pull, clean build sheet, dry the filament and retry. I suspect you've been printing long enough to know all this but it never hurts to double check.
The patchy moisture is easiest to explain - a damp spool insufficiently dried so that a damp area remained in the centre - but Elegoo's QC is not going to allow obstructing particles through and if it's a clog caused by a residue from a previous load it should have been obvious earlier...
OK, the fairy tale explanation: Someone opened a door allowing in a cool breeze that cause slight warping along with a juicy bug that flew through a spider's web, freeing itself but carrying stickiness with it which then landed on the filament to recover where the spider-glue stuck it fast so that it was slowly dragged into the printer where its exoskeleton caused a temporary clog and its blood dampness.
But if the problem persists come back and we'll discard the fairy tale.
Cheerio,
