Top layer finish rough in some areas
After doing the super fast benchy out of the box I went right to printing things I want. Second print was two objects laying flat with a flat top surface. The top surface that was toward the back of the printer was rough and not pretty and smooth like the rest of the print. Is this cooling issue? or mesh bed? Should I try doing a calibration again? or? Anyone else have similar on out of box. New to Prusa world, I don't have carried over mk experience.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas -solved
It appears it is due to warping. The warping was so small I didn't notice.. but there it is.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
Which material are you using?
I was hoping the Core One would eliminate warping issues, at least for PLA and PETG......

RE:
I went through a period right after getting my Mk4s where everything seemed to be warping. I thought at first it was poor bed adhesion. But finally realized that just because the machine can go so much faster doesn’t mean the filaments will behave. PrusaSlicer’s default profiles push up the extruded temps, presumably to get faster speeds, but that can cause increased warping. Now I generally start with the default filament profiles, but add 10 to the bed temp and subtract 10 from the extruded temp, and print at Structural. Seems to have made a big improvement! Some filaments may behave better at faster speeds but I haven’t figured out which ones, yet.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
Thanks for that insight. I am trying your suggested changes right now on my current print.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
I am using the black galaxy prusa pla that came with the printer. I wanted to give the printer the best chance at giving me good first impressions so I thought I would use the filament they sent with settings they suggest before I through in and try to use the variety of odd ball stuff I have stashed away that tends to be very hit or miss. I had such a tried and true method on my old printers and had not dealt with warping in literal years. It didn't occur to me. I have such a learning curve that I think is worse than someone who has no experience honestly.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
I am experiencing the exact same problem. With hatchbox PLA. With the door closed and with the door open. My rough top surfaces are near the front of the printer. I will try the 10 degree temp adjustments to see if that fixes this disappointing print quality.
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
Total newbie. I'm also having this issue with Black Galaxy Prusa PLA. At first I thought it was warping (on the larger rectangular part there are rougher patches on each corner but only really bad on the front left). But at least when cooled it is as flat as I can measure. It sounds like the current solution is to set prusa slicer to a generic filament and then add 10 degrees to the bed and subtract 10 degrees from the print head?
RE: Top layer finish rough in some areas
Yes, I added 10 to the bed and took 10 from the head. It seems to have worked. I also just noticed today my front left corner is low. I am going to start research on how to adjust for that. Wondering if I can just turn a screw as I would on my old non prusa machines.
