Planetary gear jamming when I tighten the gear cover more than loosely

I just finished my Core One build and everything worked out without any issue. I calibrated the printer successfully until I got to the gear calibration. The calibration itself ran without any issues but then the instructions said to "firmly tighten the gearbox cover screws."

The calibration was done at that point, but the gears were still turning and as soon as I tightened the second screw on the gearbox cover, the gears started making a noise which sounded like a jam or the motor skipping steps. I thought that was normal at first and proceeded until I tried loading the filament for the first time. I couldn't manage to push it into the extruder. Wondering why, I opened the idler flap and looked underneath to see that the gear wasn't turning and seemed stuck. I could resolve the issue by loosening the gearbox cover which made it turn freely again, but now it is just loosely attached with the screws barely tightened.

Trying a first test print, the motor still seemed to skip steps and the extruder had issues with extruding smoothly, which lead to a blob on the print, which caught the print head, made the x and y motors skip some steps, and caused a massive layer shift and some spaghetti salad in my printer.

Is that a known issue or do you have any suggestions before I completely disassemble the gearbox to re-seat everything?

RE:

Double check the orientation of the gold colored ring (the PG-ring). One side has a chamfer, the other side doesn't. The chamfer must be facing down. See here:
