No filament extruding during printing

Hey folks, would really appreciate some assistance for a fairly inexperienced 3D printer user here.

Had the Core One just for one day. First three prints absolutely perfect, printing with PLA.

15% in to the third print the printer stopped extruding filament but it carried on as if there was (i.e. it was moving around the bed as it thought it was dispensing). So far I've checked the filament all the way through the gear which it is, and also using the surgical needle in the nozzle which also appears clear.

I've tried unloading and loading filament and when I load, it doesn't purge any filament and the gears make a clicking sound.

Before I start dismantling things, what should I do next? Note it was a factory assembled unit.

Many thanks

Amir

RE: No filament extruding during printing

It sounds like the filament broke below the sensor. Open the idler door when the filament is unloaded and see if there is still filament there, if so while the nozzle is  heated up carefully pull it out with pliers. If there is no filament visible, align the filament to make sure it is going in the hole to the nozzle. While the nozzle is at temp try to manually push the filament through the nozzle. If that works, try loading the filament normally. Also check there is not a broken piece in the PTFE tube above the extruder.

It could also be a clogged nozzle. In that case, heat up without loaded filament, and use the needle that should have come with your printer to poke in the nozzle opening. Remember the nozzle is hot, and not burn yourself.

Thanks for your help. Indeed the filamant had broken.  Managed to remove it by taking out the nozzle.
