Networking issue with Core One+

Hello,

I finished assembling my Core printer two weeks ago, and I'm facing an annoying networking problem. All my IoT and connected devices are on a separate VLAN to prevent internet access, which works fine for the printer, but it consistently refuses to use DHCP and defaults to its original IP in the default subnet instead of my separate VLAN. Every time I start the printer, I have to go into the networking settings, switch from DHCP to static, and then back to DHCP just to establish a connection. This issue occurs with both Wi-Fi and Ethernet. I’ve tried factory resetting and reflashing the firmware, but nothing has worked.

Additionally, as a first impression, I've avoided this issue with a small extension mod, but as much as I appreciate the print quality, the Wi-Fi module is honestly quite disappointing. I experienced worse connectivity just 10 feet from my access point in the same room than I did with my regular printer, which is 40 feet away in a different room. This was with the access point set to medium power, whereas I usually keep it low to minimize interference with neighboring apartments.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issue? How can I solve it?

I'm not using a distinct VLAN but I am feeding my CORE One a static IP from my DHCP servers.  Hard wired, not WiFi.

About all I can suggest is Wireshark or tcpdump to capture the printer requesting an IP address.

Regarding the general WiFi reach: My Core One sits in the basement, one concrete floor and one brick wall away from the WiFi access point. The access point is a FritzBox, not known for great WiFi antennas and reach. I get a stable connection and decent bandwidth, similar to what my Samsung phone gets when placed next to the printer.

I would imagine that the big chunk of metal which is the Core One may interfere with WiFi transmission in the direction towards the printer enclosure. In my setup, the printer happens to be positioned such that its back (with the WiFi antenna) is oriented towards the access point. If it is the opposite in your case, maybe try rotating the printer to get a less obstructed path to the WiFi base station?

One problem I had was the printer was 1/2 a meter away from the router which was creating WiFi dropouts. So for a while I had it direct connected with an ethernet cable. But then I don't like extra wires so I simply moved the router 4 meters further away and problem solved. But yes, the ESP32 wifi module is a little flaky.

Here's a user mod from last year which places the WiFi module on top of the printer -- for settings where the enclosure would otherwise obstruct the signal path.
