RE: Immediately severely clogged after only 2 test prints

OP here ...

Although nowhere mentioned in the booklet & online course - it seems that PLA needs drying once we start to get into spring/summer times here in Europe.  The room is on average around 35-40% humidity.

So thanks to all for that great tip.  Bought myself an electronic dryer which I use on a new spool.  Then after each printing session,  I unload and put the spool into a curver box which is full with silica gel.  Holding wood but so far I did not encounter an issue again.

I also made sure to increase the space behind the printer so there is enough circulation possibility.  The guide does mention 30 cm.  I moved from 10 to approx. that.

30 cm seems very excessive; this distance is certainly not needed for air circulation. That's probably just a copy & paste from the old bedslinger design: The manual mentions the concern that moving textile-sleeved cables could rub against obstacles if they don't get that large free space around the printer. Feel free to move the Core One back to the original "10 cm from the wall" position; that will certainly be fine.

Yeah I would think indeed it had potentially little impact. But I have the space so not taking any chances 😛  Thanks for your feedback.

Based in the UK. I've never dried any PLA to this date irrespective of time of year. This summer my external hydrometer read 60%.

I just don't keep my PLA in the open. I store them in vacuum sealed bags when not in use, and place them into an airtight box (plastic cereal container with lots of desiccant balls at the bottom) when feeding to the printer rather then using the printer's own spool holder. This has always worked fine for me thus far.....

RE:

If its any consolation I have a P1S as well as a Core One (& an old MK3 with all the Prusa upgrades) and the P1S and MK3 both will snap old filament thats seen a lot of time in dry air, or just old bad filament. P1S just wouldn't take old filaments at all and they often snapped off just at the entry to the hotend making them difficult to unblock, but the MK3 would print to some degree before eventually snapping. We've seen particularly hot and humid air in Europe this summer and my average indoor temperature was easily 24-25C mid summer with high humidity that I've been offsetting with a dehumidifier but its too expensive and noisy to run 24x7. Put your dryer beside the Core One in the summer and print directly from it, the better ones have sealed chambers that will keep the air low humidity for some time after drying.

My Core One kit came in June and sat in its box until late August so didn't really see the high heat the other printers were printing in.
