the shadow dance (nice description 🙂 ) is the printer that keeps printing without noticing that it is just printing air.
I would start with making sure that the filament is not tangled on the spool (preventing it to roll in). Then check the tension on the idler screws of the extruder: if they are too open, the filament will not be grabbed properly and could slip (not being pulled by the teeth in the extruder). See the building intructions for the proper tension (if I remember correctly they should align with the border of the extruder). A possible final check is if the right material was selected as being loaded...
