First Use of Online Slicer

So, I decided to try the function whereby you send to your printer directly from Printables.  Let me share my story

I found a file I fancied printing - https://www.printables.com/model/409520-iphone-magsafe-stand/files and thought I'd try the send to printer functionality.

The app Sliced the model and showed me that it was slicing for my Mk4, with a 0.4 nozzle and 0.2 layer height using Prusa PLA (which luckily was what I needed).  The model looked like it 'may' need supports but would print without so I let the slicer just do its thing.  It added supports and sliced it, sent it to my printer and then off we went printing.  It really was just that easy.

Now for the bit you are all probably interested in.  The model was sliced as gcode and not bgcode.  There was no input shaping so the file took a while to print.

Sliced by the app: 6hrs 56min, 20mb file size

Sliced in the slicer at home: 3hr 34 min 7.19mb file size (sliced with the standard IS profile) - Sliced just for comparison.

So yes it was slower, printed really well though

I don't think the Prusa app has a slicer built in (yet).  All it is doing is sending whatever presliced files are already uploaded to Printables.  The file you sent, quite possibly, could even have been for MK3 instead of MK4, depending on what has been uploaded.

Nah, I specifically chose something that only had an STL file. Nothing pre sliced; take a look. Was very impressed. Like o said it also did not have IS which shows it will probably work fine for the MK3 family too

It's not sliced in the app. Someone uploaded a gcode file in the User Print Files section that the app pulls down.

So why am I not seeing that then?

You shouldn't. Took me a minute to find it too but I knew the app didn't have an inbuilt slicer so there had to be some explanation.

Hmm. Then essentially you just throw a GCode file to the printer and you hope for the best?

Not sure if I am interested then.

No, same here - I had no idea I was using someone else’s gcode, not something I do if I can help it. Nothing against the person that produces it, I just prefer to always use my own sliced information because I know that I have profiles set up that work for me and my printer

I hope Prusa will add the slicer functionality to the new app. I can model in 3d and send a gcode to print right from my iPad, but I still have to use my computer to slice my models.
