Seeking Feedback on Prusa Mini Enclosure - Noise & Filtration System?

Hi everyone,

I’m considering purchasing the Prusa Mini Enclosure, but I haven’t found many videos on YouTube that address my specific concerns. One of the main reasons I’m interested in it is to reduce noise (and for the filtration system), but I haven’t seen any videos showing the Prusa Mini printing inside the enclosure with the filtration system running.

If anyone here owns the enclosure, could you kindly share your experience or even a video of it in action? I’d really appreciate any insight, especially regarding noise levels!

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are looking for a filtration system for printer enclosures, have a look at the Nevermore Mini:
https://www.printables.com/de/model/757663-nevermore-mini-3d-printer-hepa-and-carbon-air-filt
I have mine inside an Original Prusa Enclosure for an MK4, which also has the "Advanced Filtration System" by Prusa installed. The Prusa solution is much!!! louder and only has a HEPA filter and can only be turned on and off. I would not have this thing running the whole time, it is much too loud. They advertise VOC filtration but the filter has just a HEPA filter, no carbon filter. The one offered for the Mini Enclosure looks to be the same thing.
The Nevermore can be built in several versions with several levels of automation and in several sizes. I have the one with the touch display. It has HEPA and VOC filtration with activated carbon, VOC, temp, and humidity sensors which control the fan speed and the running fan is hardly audible when the enclosure doors are closed. There are many mounting options for it and I am sure that there is enough space for it in the Mini Enclosure. And it already has "Mini" in the name! 🙂
And last not least: the Nevermore Mini is much less expensive than the Prusa "Advanced Filtration System", although it can do more. You have to print and assemble it yourself, but that is not too difficult and there is a discord that can help.

Yes, but maybe your opinion is enough. How do you find the noise level with the enclosure? Is it actually noisier than just the printer itself? I’ve read that some enclosures can create an echo and increase the overall noise. One of my main goals is to reduce the noise, so I’m curious if the enclosure helps with that.

Thanks so much for sharing! I wasn’t aware of this filtration system, and it looks great. How are you finding the noise levels inside the enclosure with your custom setup?

For the noise levels: to reduce the resonances transmitted by the printer movements to the bottom plate you can put a mat of compressed rubber granulate under the enclosure. Or you can also look at the various solutions for squash ball feet or hula feet. Not sure if the latter exist for the Mini yet.
The rubber mat alone should take care of all the resonance noise of the enclosure.

I've got an enclosure in the closet (open doors), the closet is from the wood so it can transfer some noise.
The first thing I did was to place the printer on the rag cloth and then on the paver 30x30x3cm and this significantly reduces noise.

Next, I added an enclosure, so now the enclosure stands in the closet and there is a rag and a paver and a printer on it (which means I do not use the three dampening bolts with it.
The most noticeable part is the fact that enclosure makes it even more quiet - it blocks especially those higher frequencies of the fans.

Short comparison below:

I'll later publish comparison longer video of the printer selftest (5min each) with doors and without doors, from around 1m distance.

Notice I'm still uploading.

Thank you so much for the videos—very informative! 🙂

The setup you have with the enclosure, paver, and foam is impressive. I didn’t notice a huge difference between the enclosure being open or closed, though the fan noise might be slightly less noticeable, as you mentioned. I’m also unsure if adding a filtration system would introduce significantly more noise.

In any case, I’ll have to think it over. Thanks again for sharing such valuable information!

Thank you!! I'll look into those options to reduce the resonances.

RE: Seeking Feedback on Prusa Mini Enclosure - Noise & Filtration System?

After watching videos I notice the sound is not that different, maybe because it was on the edge of the phone so it picks up more sound from the area further than the right edge of the screen.

When standing in front of the printer and having doors closed or open is significantly different, especially regarding fan noise.

All in all I still recommend the enclosure. If needed you could also get thicker panels to dampen sound even more. But there will always be some noise due to the fact there are moving parts. Just like trying silence old computer, you can reach certain level only by minimizing moving parts and trying to blend it's noise into the ambient noise.

Yes, totally! My goal is to reduce the noise compared to having the printer outside the enclosure. Even a small reduction would be a win. However, I was concerned because I’ve read that it could create an echo chamber, potentially making it even noisier.

Thanks for your help! 🙂

Echo chamber can be mitigated by using dampening cloth and adding additional mass like a paver inside and on the enclosure.

Go and get the enclosure, it's worth it 😉

I was rather thinking about getting filtration and LEDs bit after doing mine I think it is okay to get the one that is in the setup, especially when I count in time I spent to configure it, it would be faster to have ready components. Doing it from scratch is a way to go if you really know what you want to build to extend the basic enclosure functionality.

RE: Seeking Feedback on Prusa Mini Enclosure - Noise & Filtration System?

I have two enclosures, one original and one mini and both have the Filtration system.  There is definitely a noticeable fan noise when the filtration system is running.  It is not loud, but it is a fan spinning noise if that helps.  Similar in tone, but a bit louder than, the printer fan noises if that helps.  It is not offensive, but more like a white-noise machine noise in my opinion.  Sort of like if you turned on a box fan, air movement and fan hum if that helps.
