Seems the stringing issue is somehow connected to a lot of topics in this forum. It could really be bad sensors.
Have a look here: https://forum.prusa3d.com/forum/postid/684340/

I measured the hotend temperature and one of the sensors I got sent by them was 15°C off (hotter). They apparently have problems with the complete batch of sensors so it's quite possible that your sensor is somewhat malfunctioning. But you can just set the temp lower and you're fine.

Posted by: @luc-e

For PETG I lower the temperature to 220 both hot end and bed, that way I get very satisfying results similar to what I had with my MK3S+. Not sure if it is the temp sensor measuring wrong or the AD conversion in the firmware or I just have a broken sensor. As I can't measure the hot end temperature I'm in the blind here. I did read others had to do the same to get less stringing and blobs so it might be something that can be corrected in firmware.

How would one accurately measure the nozzle temp manually?  Might be nice to do if you get another printer as you can do the same measurement and then adjust your profiles accordingly. Numbers on the LCD screen are no where near accurate in an absolute sense, but more for reference on a single machine. For instance, the temp sensor is not on top of the bed and so my bed temps are anywhere from 6-15 degrees lower depending on the position on the bed.. An IR temp gun will characterize your bed so you can adjust another printer to a similar profile.

Just tried printing a really large model and ran into what looks like an extruder problem. It can't pull enough filament when laying down layers at speed. The first layer (which it prints slower) is perfect, then the 2nd layer and above goes really rough and the extruder makes clicking noises. This is with 0.2mm SPEED profile and generic PLA. An absurdly wordy write up is on my web page.

Have you already done a cold pull? If not, the extruder motor could also be defective. Otherwise, I would contact the support team.

I'll give that a try. I hadn't thought about the idea that the problem might be not able to push enough rather than not able to pull enough. Thanks.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Hi,

I had 2 of MK3S ( later upgraded to S+) and when the MK4 was announced I sold both and ordered the MK4 that I received End of May. Since the first I never had any real issues . I was following each Alpha software step . Yes I had nozzle cleaning stops with PETG and sometimes filament dots but always perfect printing . I was using Octoprint on the Mk3s+ and now I am quite happy with prusa connect in combination with a cheap EuFy Indoor camera. I don´t need time lapse records and so I can monitor all prints on my MK4 and on 2 x Mini+ I bought cheap now running on 5.1 beta really great. I highly can recommend to adjust the x&y belts with the prusa app and sing the tune with you own voice in parallel( I am a singer in a choir). Then you can really be safe to set the correct belt tension and get repeatable adjustment and correct app results. I am only using prusament filament , when I was using Extrudr copper PETG I had to change from satin to the smooth sheet as Extrudr had a significantly worse adhesion. I was printing a lot ASA and TPU in an enclosure with the prusa filter with really perfect results. My MK4 is working rock solid and as I am printing mostly all night I would hate the noise form a Bambu . Especially the current pending Software release 5.1 & 2.7 slicer is a superb powerful combo both on MK4 and Mini+. The Mini+ is super silent and the Mk4 is very acceptable silent.

Wow just came across this thread. I have had no end of trouble with my MK4 but looking at this poll it seems I am not alone.

52% of people have had trouble with the MK4? 52 freaking percent….. explains why Prusa support has very long wait times in chat.

Prusa has lost its touch. Last Prusa machine i will purchase.

You do realize that this poll isn't anywhere near the representation of Mk4 owners/users. That 52% is a very skewed number dependent on only forum users, most that come here because they have an issue. As someone who worked in and owned a research/statistical consulting company this poll would be good for narrowing down where to focus better future production, but not assuming the percentage of defective printers.

A problem of our time - nearly nobody is able to understand statistic data and how to interprete it. It is always necessary to understand what's in front of you.

Make sure your nozzle and hotblock connection is tight.   I have two MK4s, one of which  underextruding and stopping extrusion with ninjaflex, when the other could be sent the same job, same settings without issue.   I tightened the heatblock/nozzle fitting and all was well after.   before I did it, I had to heat the same material 10C hotter on it because it wasn't transferring enough heat to the nozzle because of the loose connection.  I've been super happy with my two MK4s.  I love not having to think about which sheet is loaded anymore

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I purchased a factory assembled MK4 and received around a 3 weeks ago. Printed few downloads without problems and then the filament sensor started acting up with "change filament" orders in the middle of print. Timing was inconsistent; sometimes 30 mins in and sometimes 2 hrs in. Tried cleaning per Prusa, that did not work. Tried turning the sensor off and that seemed to solve problem. While printing a 6 hr print, the thermistor came out of the probe inserted into heating block. Spoke with Prusa ( great to be able to chat with a human being!) and they sent a new thermistor out. The rep suggested I reclean the sensor and the recalibrate. Tried that and it has been purring away ever since. Printed 12 hr print without incident.

I really want to like this printer and hopefully this has solved issue and I can work on printing and not the printer.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I just sold my P1P because I got tiref of dealing with bambu lab VFA issues. With that gone I want to add a new printer and thinking of the Mk4...

Been reading this thread mostly to figure out if I am getting in trouble or truly getting a next generation machine.... Obviously, I might get biased questions here.

Also own a A1 Mini and it is quite impressive.

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

I don't have any significant problems on my first MK4. The insignificant ones were:

- PEI sheet delaminated immediately. Replaced with a spare sheet from my MK3 stock. Maybe a bad batch? I'm ordering more and testing.

- Fan self-test always failed, although fans appear to be working properly. The official support worked with me to resolve it (thanks!).

- The cable for the touch screen module was a little too short for the instructions of the official enclosure.

The previous MK3+ arrived with a chunk of PLA in the hot end as usual: they test-print and then cut the filament. When I tried to unload it, it broke under the gears and turned into a big mess. I had to disassemble the hot end almost completely in order to take that out and continue with the commissioning of the printer. But the MK4 unloaded that PLA with no issue.

RE:

Kit, worked perfectly "out of the box" though sometimes it hammers one axis or another on homing which is a bit weird. One other weird thing is on my MK3, I only ever used one side of one tex sheet and never had any marks or other wear and tear on the build plate after quite a lot of printing over years... On my MK4, almost immediately, I have a few "burn" marks (kind of like ghosting on a Plasma display) where it almost seems like the printer got too hot or something and left marks on the bed - not mechanical scratches, but heat ones where the print was. Seems to be ok, but quite a different experience to the MK3 in print surface longevity. Wonder if same issue zaitcev experienced?

I only shared the issues impacting the MK4 and Input Shaping because they weren't getting internal prioritization and our business contacts were being forced into bad positions to speak out the wrong side of their mouth..

Guys I wrote a topic but I haven't received any feedback yet, I'll write it here maybe someone has a solution, when I insert magnets or something else into the prints when restarting from the break the filament is not under pressure, has this happened to you?

Well then at least put a link to the original topic. 😀 Your post needs some elaboration. What does "filament is not under pressure" mean?

RE: MK4 Current Owners - Issues? [POLL]

Well, my MK4 experience so far has been catastrophic, and extremely frustrating.

We had 1 MK3 and 3 MK3s at my company running quite fine... and this year we decided to replace them all with 4x MK4 factory assembled. We were very excited to see how they would perform and help us in our day to day production.
The machine is beautiful, and everything works and feels better than the MK3s... except printing.

These 4 machines just kept having problems on problems. First the Prusa flashdrives just went corrupt really shortly after we started using them.
We tried Prusa connect and prusa link which were great on paper, but way too slow from time to time (and we are not hobbyists so we need a repeatable process, we can't just use prusa connect on mondays and do something else the rest of the week). So we bought brand new sandisk usb drives but problems kept arriving, blue screens at startup or during prints, prints failing due to various temp or fan issues, shitty quality prints out of nowhere even using PLA on simple prints. We tried input shaper but I felt like that got things worse quality wise so we quickly went back to trying normal printing.

We contacted Prusa support, not really knowing were to start, we sent them videos, photos, they keep asking us for more pictures, asking more questions but it just feels like a never ending list of problem that we really don't have the time to deal with. Really, it's like they are asking "what's the problem, exactly ? " and I feel embarassed because I don't even know where to start since my staff reports problems with the printers almost every day. I feel like investigating on so many issues on brand new machines is a waste of time for me and my staff. It's a shame because 3D printers were some of the least problematic machines in the shop and everyone used to love using them. Nowadays we do everything we can to avoid having to use them. My staff recently took the MK3s off their storage boxes and restarted using them instead of the MK4.

Some of you might think this is a fake review to make prusa look bad online. I wish it were (at least I'd be making money from the chinese or sthing), but no. The worst thing is, we hesitated a lot as some other printer from some other brand had just come out when we made the choice to go with the MK4, we had been long time lovers of the MK3s and of the Prusa Spirit and we thought maybe we aren't buying the best printer, but at least it will be reliable, but it's been anything but reliable... and I must say I deeply regret my choice.
