Heatbed port overcurrent

Hello!

I get an error message "Heatbed Port Overcurrent" if I try to start printing from a cold printer. Sometimes I get the same error message direct on boot. My workaround so fare is to preheat the printer. Then it starts to print without problem.

I have av Mk4-kit with firmware 4.7.0.

One teory I have is that I have mixed up the two power cables connecting the PSU, as the manual was unclear in that step (Step 6.16).

Does anyone have a clue what could be wrong?

/Mattias

RE: Heatbed port overcurrent

When I first got my assembled MK4 I had this same exact problem. Support had me check the connection of the heatbed cable at the heatbed end and check the continuity of the heatbed cable with no difference. Support eventually told me that there was a firmware bug with the workaround to preheat the heatbed to 30C before printing.

Prusa made at least one change to the firmware to address this between the original version and 4.7.0. I haven't seen this problem with the 4.7.0 firmware.

So, they may not have completely killed a firmware bug. Or it may be hardware.

I suppose it couldn't hurt to reflash the firmware to 4.70 on your system. Unlikely as it sounds I've seen some posts about other MK4 problems where people have indicated reflashing fixed something.

Thanks!

Then it's probably not a hardware fault, so I'll have to keep preheating until a new firmware is released.

RE: Heatbed port overcurrent

Just assembled my mk4 kit. During set up it gives Heatbed overcurrent alarm. Support asked me to check wiring. It was ok. They also asked me to go back from firmware 4.7.2 to 4.7.1. Problem staid.  They now will ship new Heatbed. The also mention there is a chance it is a bug in the firmware.

I see some tips to work around like preheating to 30 degrees. Wil try that. Keep you informed.

RE: Heatbed port overcurrent

Im having the exact same issue since assembly. I was also told to preheat to avoid this error. Preheating does work but starting a print without preheating almost always triggers the bed overcurrent error.

I have this same issue.  Pre-heating is the only solution that works right now.   Support told me it is a firmware issue and to wait for a fix soon.

Update:  I solved my issue!

Turns out it was a defective hotend heater.    I swapped out the hotend with another and my issue totally went away.   I think the printer mis-reports the issue as a heatbed overcurrent issue when it is actually caused by the hotend heater.
