XL hardened nozzle availability? V6 Nozzle Adapter drawbacks?

I see a Nextruder ObXidian Nozzle on the Prusa store, but it's only .4 & not .6 as well as not being in stock. Any ideas on when they might be in stock? Or Am I going to be stuck with a Nextruder V6 Nozzle Adapter for the near future? Are there any downsides to using the v6 adapter such as harder nozzle changes or anything?

My XL is due in next week. I was hoping to try out some CF & my wife has some glow in the dark PLA she runs on our mk3 from time to time. I removed the NozzleX from the mk3 as we were having some issues using it for normal prints, I assume due to the lesser thermal conductivity. It wasn't horrible, but brass works better. And given pain of changeling the nozzle and then all the associated recalibrating I generally avoid it. Looking to dedicate one of the heads on the XL to a hardened nozzle though as we can just use another for normal printing.

Any recommendations for a hardened v6, assuming a hardened Nextruder won't be showing up for a while? I've got a E3D .4 NozzleX that's been ok. But I'll probably go with a 0.6. Should I grab a .6 NozleX? ObXidian? Olsen Ruby?

Hey mate,

do not worry. The hardened Nextruder nozzle comes in and out of stock every so often. I snacked two while black Friday. I would guess it will be one or two weeks mix since it will be in stock again. How they stay in stock we will see. Usually they are gone in a few days.

If you're using a Nextruder v6 adapter just get a diamondback. I have had nothing but issues with hardened nozzles from Dyze, Midwest, and 3dmakerengineering.

Ideally Diamondback just makes a nextruder nozzle, unless they turn out defective in some way I'm never using anything else.

I managed to buy a ObXidian in 0.6mm a few weeks ago.

Prusa Nozzle ObXidian's in stock it looks like. Debating if I'm going to snag any.  Fighting with some stringing & oozing. I hear mixed results by dropping from .6 to .4 mm nozzles & haven't figured out if I'm ready to get 5 new nozzles of any type to drop to .4 across the board.

That Diamondback sounds really interesting. Done a bit of research on them & the thermal conductivity being better than brass as well as the non-stick aspects seem as good as the wear resistance. $100 a pop is tough to swallow, but doable. If they had a Nextruder one I'd probably just jump on it. I submitted the question on if/when they may be releasing a Nextruder compatible nozzle on the ChampionX site.

Thanks for reaching out. And, thank you for your interest in our nozzles. We are always working to expand our product offerings and respond to the ever-changing 3D printing industry. We are currently developing for the Prusa Nextruder, but we don’t have anything commercially available yet. We hope to have something available for purchase in the next 3 to 4 months. As new nozzles become available, we will add them to our Amazon Store and webpage.

Thanks,

The DiamondBack Team

I find the copper nozzles too sticky for multimaterial. They keep building up material that creeps up the nozzle and is eventually dumped on the print. I'm hoping the Obxidian coating will reduce this (I use some form of coated hardened nozzle on all my printers, so I'm optimistic). I'll also implement brushes.

Printer woke me up at 4:30 this morning on my single material gridfinity print.

No clue what happened, or how it pulled the sock off. But I have had some clumping & stringing issues on PETG. The nozzles on my 2 PETG heads were nasty & the block on #5 was goobered up as well. I put the sock on a few days ago after seeing how goopy the PETG was being.

Got home & had my package from Prusa I ordered weeks ago waiting. 3 brass .4mm nozzles & 2 ObXidian .4mm nozzles. Spent half an hour with clippers removing the blob. Then swapped the stock .6 brass for a .4 ObXidian. Spent a while recalibrating the heads offset (can only do all 5 at once) & the dock for #5. It failed the offset a few times, pretty obvious there were globs on a couple nozzles. #5 was clean but crashed a few times so I recalibrated the dock again. Seems to be swapping fine & is printing more gridfinity.

I'll see how the .4 ObXidian nozzle works & then figure out if I'm going to put in the other ObXidian & 3 brass .4s or do something else. Will probably put the other 4 socks on when I swap nozzles. Likely won't mess with the abrasives on the ObXidian until I get a feel for how my standard PETG & maybe PLA react to the new nozzle.
