Octoprint invalid tool errors

After the somewhat recent firmware updates, Octoprint functionality with my 5-tool XL is much more complete. Prints seem to complete correctly most of the time, and as long as the extruders are set correctly in the slicer, even multi-tool prints work pretty well.

One issue that has popped up is in regards to nuisance errors. Every time any users calls up a print, either thru Octoprint or direct from the USB drive, Octoprint produces a string of repeating errors:

Suppressed command

The command T0 was not sent to the printer:

Not queuing T0, that tool doesn't exist according to the printer profile or was reported as invalid by the firmware. Make sure your printer profile is set up correctly.

And:

Invalid tool reported

Your printer reported tool T0 as invalid, reverting back to T0

These errors are repeated multiple times and fill the right side of the Octoprint interface, but otherwise don't seem to cause any issues most of the time. Randomly, sending a print from Octoprint will cause the XL to start printing without a tool attached at all, and the same errors appear.

Is anyone else running into this? It appears to me that Octoprint and the XL are arguing over which tool is first, T1 or T0, but the fact that this occurs even on prints straight from the USB tells me there's probably something deeper going on. Any insights or ideas are appreciated!

Well, if these are just annoying messages and you are sure that printing jobs work flawlessly otherwise you could disable the "validity check" in the printer settings (found under Printer > Behaviour) in OctoPrint.

Hi there, I am having the same error like yours. Have you figured out the issue?

No progress or resolution (though admittedly there is a firmware update I haven't dug into yet). Due to the fact that printing from the USB stick is the only way to do any tool reassignments or spool joins, my users are typically not using OctoPrint for anything other than monitoring with the camera.

Did you set up the correct number of extruders in the OctoPrint printer profile under "Hotend & Extruder"? I do not have an XL, but I have used my MK4 with the manual MMU settings (virtual extruders) and at first there were the same error messages about T0 in OctoPrint. After I changed the number of extruders in OctoPrint to the number of virtual extruders in PrusaSlicer, those error messages went away.

Yes, I do have it set to 5 extruders.

Wow, wish I'd known it was that simple from the start. That completely cleared it up. Thanks!
