Longer Filament Sensor Cables

I recently purchased a pair of these Molex Clik-Mate cables that are 600mm long.

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/538-15135-0506

These cables have the correct connector footprint, but they are not wired like the cables from Prusa.

Mouser Cable Wiring (Incorrect)

  • Connector A Pin 1 - Connector B Pin 5
  • Connector A Pin 2 - Connector B Pin 4
  • Connector A Pin 3 - Connector B Pin 3
  • Connector A Pin 4 - Connector B Pin 2
  • Connector A Pin 5 - Connector B Pin 1

I was able to use a needle to pull out the terminal and wires and reconnect them as follows.

  • Connector A Pin 1 - Connector B Pin 1
  • Connector A Pin 2 - Connector B Pin 2
  • Connector A Pin 3 - Connector B Pin 3
  • Connector A Pin 4 - Connector B Pin 4
  • Connector A Pin 5 - Connector B Pin 5

The cables now work as intended.

Can you do a video of how you did it?

Did you ever come across a male / female cable?  Id like to extend the existing cable and be able to easily disconnect them where the old and new cable couple.

Raptor,

This model has links to lengthen the cables.  They parts are from Mouser electronics. Essentially, he took 2 female sockets and soldered them back to back and then used a 600mm male-male cable to extend them.  I will be trying the same.

Thanks!  Its fun to see that model referenced.  Its mine.  😀    When I couldn't find the right cable, I came up with my own solution.

EDIT: Extending the existing cable also meant that repinning wasn't required.

I'm laughing at myself.  Sorry I didn't pick up on that.  Your idea is the best I've found for a plug and play extension cord.

Raptor,

I went and ordered the parts.  Mouser's prices went up $1 a cable by the time I put my order in.  I soldered the sockets up and hot glued and shrunk wrapped them.  No problem.  Thanks for a great idea.  Now I just need to figure the best location for my dry box now that I have some leeway.
