RE: Ideas to make enclosure for XL Multi Tool

No I haven't yet. I do plan on reprinting them.

With small parts like this it might be worth having them SLS printed or milled. I just ran it quickly through PCBway and it would be around 50USD for 5x idler-lever-a and 5x idler-lever-b (SLS Nylon).

Are all the parts STLs on Prusa's website now?

Thanks think I will first print them in ASA. I might eventually try printing the parts on one of my DLP printers. I was thinking about printing them in Phrozen TR300 resin.

Printing continues on this long print. The printing has been running for 38hrs and 36hrs to go. This part is 330mm long 270mm deep and 130mm tall

The print so far. As I look at it, there are definitely a lot of things that could foil this long print.

What the part will look like when it is finished. The part will be acetone processed when done.

Wow, that's a large print!   Looking amazing!

With the 0.4 nozzle, did you slow down the printing speed and/or reduced the maximum volumetric rate to help mitigate potential warping?

I've read that all of the following can "help" with filament that's prone to warping: Higher print head temp, larger nozzle, slower print speed... and of course high enclosure temps.  I was thinking you'd use a 0.6 nozzle (did yours come with 0.6 or 0.4 nozzles?)

This XL came with .60mm nozzles but I switched to .40mm over a month ago. This print is being printed with the .40 nozzles.

Some specs

Enclosure temps 36-38C

Top print 194 grams 12.5 hours.

Base print 970 grams 74 hours

Flashforge White ASA

Bed Temp 100C

First layer .30, all other layers .20, 5 perimeter, 5 solid top and bottom layers. All layers @255C. I used the generic ASA profile for all other parameters. No changes in the flow rate.

Oh forgot the infill is only 15%. I went down to 15% because this is not a structural part and I wanted to stay under 1k for the base.

What actually is it? What does it (or will it) do?

It is actually a custom drink and phone caddy for a boat. It will be mounted on the console.

I just checked in on the print and it is coming along nicely.

Oh yea nice!!

I've heard custom holders like that for boats is quite well sought after!

My dad has some shares in a boat in Greece, wonder if I can get him to pay me to make him a custom module 😛

Ok after a little over 80 hours this print in ASA has finished. So many things can happen over such a long time. I won't be back in the shop till Monday to take a look at it. From viewing it on the camera the print looks pretty good.

Pretty stressful waiting for such a long print to finish.

Rushed in this morning to pull the part and assemble it. After a little post processing it will be complete. Pretty happy with the print as a whole. The base had a tiny bit of lifting on the corners but I was expecting that on such a large print. That will be taken care of in the post processing. I don't know if I want to do another 80hr print. Next time I will break the part into multiple pieces for multiple prints. To much can go wrong on such a long print.

RE: Ideas to make enclosure for XL Multi Tool

To MME: I have a question about how it looks with some STL models or better in F3D, will they be available?. I've started drawing in Fusion 360 based on your images and I'm making some adjustments. I have an XL with five tools and that already requires a solution around the filter. I will make my designs available for the 5 tool version.

I still have a question, where can I buy a T-Nut with a spring for the T3030. I'm having trouble finding the one in the picture.

Thanks in advance for your reply

@MME - very impressive!   I can't wait until I've got my enclosure set-up (I'm still tinkering with my design)

How will you handle the slight warping in post processing, is there enough material to sand it flat or can you "relax" it somehow?

Yeah, multiple parts would probably solve for that.   Of course it would be nice to use the whole print surface of the XL without significant warping, but likely would require experimenting with higher temps.  From what I've researched (and experienced when printing a "large" ASA airbox on my MK3+) you need to be in the 50c-60c enclosure temperature range for large boxy ASA/ABS prints.

Thanks for sharing... the part looks great!  Really nice work there.

The M3's don't seem to be available but they're so small as to be next to useless. Going up to M4 opens up the possibilities: M4 Spring Nut on Amazon

You can buy the M3 spring nuts directly from Prusa.

I haven't seen any 3mm for the 3030.  Whatever you get get the low profile type like the left one in the pic. The normal ones on the right in the pic won't work.

I will sand the bottom a little before I acetone polish the entire piece. It also has marine decking foam feet that go on the bottom so it the underneath can be rinsed off without removing.

I will post a pic after being post processing.

RE: Ideas to make enclosure for XL Multi Tool

There are many versions of the M3 3030 nuts available and I bought several, that do not fit (too loose or too big).

These ones work fit very good: https://www.ebay.de/itm/265577061268

Check the dimensions if you buy somewhere else.
