Question about generating supports for multimaterial
Question. Coming across to the XL from the Mk3S+ printers we have. I have the settings working well for PETG supported by PLA. But now I need to print a fairly complex piece and I know from experience where the supports are needed and where they are not, like inside internal channels. So, I painted on supports and support blockers. I've assigned extruders for support and part under the Multiple extruders tab. But if I don't select "Auto generate supports" but do select "Generate support materials" no supports come up when sliced. If I select "Auto generate supports" the it's like I never painted on the supports and I get them in problem areas. I'm sure I'm missing something?
You have selected 'For support enforcers only' from the dropdown on the plater screen..?

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.

The file you uploaded is basically just the stl without any of your print settings. But I took a shot at a few ways I'd attempt a print of it. At the very least you can compare settings to figure out what you're missing.
The overhangs don't look too crazy depending on how you orient the model. Horizontal will give you the strongest 'arm' but you'll need some small metal picks to dig support out of there.

Sorry, forgot to save the 3mf instead of stl. I'm juggling a herd of cats and people asking for help here! I just can't figure out why it wont just print the supports on the support enforcers. Off to the doctor in the morning then I'll be back on this.
Oops .. none of your settings were included - prepare it as you have been, including painted supports, slice it, then save the project, zip, and we'll try again.
That said, a few observations: Those fillets on the outer edges are not going to print well without soluble supports, 45° chamfers, if possible, would print better.
The conduit for the ?bowden? cable has a double curve - does this add friction?
You could reduce the curve stepping by saving your CAD with higher resolution - this might reduce friction.
If printed in two halves and glued with dowel pins for alignment this would be printable without supports - but engineering constraints might preclude this. (see file)

Thanks, the model is coming from a mechanical engineer and Solidworks. The friction in there is minimal as we use 100 pound test Spectra and it's pretty slippery stuff. We are launching a new above elbow loss prosthetic and I only have 60 people desperately hoping and word has leaked and more are coming forward! We can only play with things a little right now in the face of overwhelming need! So trying a horizontal orientation in the morning. The PLA supports for PETG are really excellent though!
