I have a part I'm trying to print that's mostly PLA, but has some flex inserts on the lower side, and some inset details in different colors on the top side. I have found that if I print with default settings, the printer keeps insisting on using flex filament in the supports. And flex filament makes for a terrible support material, it sticks way too well and is hard to remove and also doesn't do a good job of supporting the material above it so the finish on overhangs is terrible. Now I can go into the multi-tool configuration tab in the slicer and tell the slicer to only use one of the PLA filaments for the support material, and when I do that the support works great and the overhang finish is much better. But when I do that, the slicer disables the purge tower. And with the purge tower disabled, the fine detailing on the inset details on the top looks much worse, with smearing and blobbing.

Is there any way to tell the slicer to not use the flex filament for support, but still keep the purge tower so that the fine detailing work still comes out well?

Normal PS will only let you do that if you're using zero top contact z distance aka soluble support settings. If you have a spare extruder might be worth trying PETG supports.

Otherwise, there's also this fork of PS that will let you do what you want without having to use soluble support settings.
