XL Filament end recognition

Does the XL recognize the end of filament through the black box marked 1 2 3 where you input the filament into the hose? If so, is it using the rest of filament in the hose until it stops printng or would it stop immediately after there is no more filament coming in? Is there another recognition switch in the head? I just finished my first kilogram filament role and the printer kept on printing after the filament end passed the entry box.

As I randomly watched that, so I changed the filament manually  when the end entered the print head to avoid that it printed empty.

What would be the normal procedure? When would the print automatically stop? Should it do that after the end passed the filament input box or at a later time?

How can I check if the end recognition works anyway? I remember having made some tests during installation of the printer. Those tests worked fine.

Can I tell the printer before the print start to automatically switch to another head if the role in the other head is empty? Or is there alway a manual action necessary.

Sorry I am new with prusa. Was using Ultimaker before.

Thank you for your help.

Yes

No. Yes, its a little wasteful.

Yes

Are your filament sensors ticked on in the LCD menus?

I've done 3 end of spool swaps in the past week. The side sensors trip when they no longer detect filament, the print pauses, selector moves to the front of the bed, and extracts the filament just enough to grab the tip from the side sensor area: once I had to extract from behind the sensor, twice I easily grabbed the tip from the input side. It will beep continuously and ask if the unload was successful. You pull out the run of filament and input the new filament. It'll ask if it loaded correctly, hit yes, it'll spit out an extra inch of filament which you have to quickly grab it off the nozzle with some pliers while it moves back to print.

Thank you so far.

I'll watch this and come back to you when the next end-of-filament situation occurs.

Yes you can do this in the print menu on the printer at the start of the print.
