WTH happened to this toolhead?!
Bought this XL2T second hand with about 500hrs print time. Took me a long time to figure out what was going on with intermittent poor extrusion and print failures as I don’t get lots of time to work on my printer.
finally narrowed it down to Tool 2(I was swapping filaments and tools almost every print) which is pictured. Tool 1 prints perfectly.
my question is, what the hell has happened to this extruder? Is this white stuff from printing a specific filament? Or bad maintenance (the rest of the printer does not suggest bad maintenance)?Trying to understand whether it might just be a nozzle change to fix (maybe this white stuff is from an abrasive filament, or something high temp?), or do I need to pull down the whole extruder and clean, lubricate and reassemble? I don’t have heaps of time, so if I can get away with a nozzle change I’d be happy.
thanks in advance
That nozzle does look rather worn so a change is probably in order whatever happens. I guess some damp, styrene based filament has been fizzing there. It will probably cleanup with IPA and a cotton bud. Open the extruder idler and blow out any residues in there too.
Cheerio,
