RE: USB error mid print
In my case this happened after uploading the file, before starting the print.
Uploading via prusa slicer and connect, FW 6.0.1, XL 5T.
I have the USB stick plugged out and plugged in again, then I was able to print with continue.
From time to time, the file system of the original USB stick is destroyed, and I have to generate a new file system (using linux).
RE: USB error mid print
Hello guys,
finally it happend to me also. Yesterday I started print with TPU 98A using PrusaLink. 20h print started well and after about 6h thie error came up. There was no way how to restart print. So I went to my printer, sliced my file again this time I copied this file to absolutly clean Flash drive - different than before and started print again. Now after 14h of print again this error. This time using Prusa Connect I was able to restart it. But this bug is a serious problem, because of a lot of waste that could be created.
Thanks for helping and solving this problem guys.
Micahl
RE: USB error mid print
This is driving me crazy, I have wasted about 200 hours of print time and many kgs of filament on this, and it making me consider not using the printer any more until there is a solution. Contacting Prusa support tomorrow.
Team at Prusa - Unsure how to help but please let me know if I can do anything to help... test a beta fix or something.
Of course this happens randomly... finished 2 long prints, then today it happened again at 85% of a 12 hour print. I could not recover.
5T although most of the time only printing with 2 heads.
I cannot tell when the problem started, it was about 2 months ago but one month ago gotten worse. Tried many random suggestions online...
- Reconnecting all cables to screen, front and back.
- Reflashing firmware.
- New USBs, smaller, slower, etc., reformat drive, etc.
- Turning off wifi, prusalink prusaconnect.
When the failure happens most often I cannot recover. Sometimes, unplugging and plugging does the trick. Occasionally, unplugging printer and restarting gets the print to start but this is not always the case.
Now I am waiting for some ferrite coils to put around LCD screen cable on the back, apparently that helped someone in facebook group...
RE: USB error mid print
I'm sorry to say this to you, but don't get your hopes up. I went as far as using octoprint plugged directly in the back port. I still had the issue. Like you, sometimes it happens only after about 10 hours of printing, othertimes it happens within 2 hours. No rythm or reason. I really think it has nothing to do with the USB port anymore. I think USB errors are just a symptom of a bigger problem.
RE: USB error mid print
It's starting to get hot in my basement, first summer with the XL. My current print was riddled with these weird usb error / file error things and I'm sure it has nothing to do with either the USB drive, nor the bgcode file. It would take about 5 hours from a cold start to get the first error, then every hour or so. When I pulled the USB and reinserted the print didn't resume, it just put me in the normal 'during a print menu' except with the Resume button greyed out and unselectable. I would just flick the power off for an instant to force a power panic to get the printer to resume.
The issue seems to be nothing more than the electronics box above the PSU's overheating. If you check your Sensor Info in your XL's menus it is called Board Temperature, and mine was up over 90C when I was having constant issues. It just says Not Initialized right now, so I can't say what the non-error-causing-temps are.
So I ordered some stuff from Amazon for this mod by surfalex2000 that adds a 40mm fan and exhaust grills to the electronics box cover. Ever since installing it I've stopped getting the error (several hours now, knock on wood). From the comments of the mod it seems this is a known issue that I just never really ran across or knew of until recently. Seems all the printer needs is a small fan or non-completely-closed electronics box so the heat can escape.
Hope that helps anyone that comes across this.

I am testing yet, but i think it is not read problem, it is write problem, have you checked writing file directly to usb from computer?

RE: USB error mid print
I wrote with support and they advice me to change xLCD - they are sending me new part. So after I replace it I would start a long print again and would give you inforation.
RE: USB error mid print
Hmmm wonder if there is something to the temp? My temp is 91.7, which is toasty. Room the printer is in is not particularly warm but not cold either, and it is warmer than before problem started.
For now, going to remove cover, see if that helps.
RE: USB error mid print
Is there a way to edit posts?
With cover off, board temp is now 83.5 C after a couple hours. Of course a fan would be perfect!
RE: USB error mid print
FWIW Department: I haven't had the fail happen in a bit but I also haven't been printing 24 hours prints lately - mostly 12 and single color.
HOWEVER, I just experienced my USB drive getting corrupted for the second time. I have to think this might be connected given the failure we've been seeing.
RE: USB error mid print
This makes alot of sense to me, here in Florida I haven't had any issues since April which is also about the time we close up the house and run AC. I will monitor the temp during a few of the longer prints, dumb luck but the printer is more or less under the duct in my office.

RE: USB error mid print
I just got my printer. did the setup. I upgraded V6.0.0 to 6.0.2. I loaded the wifi credentials. I addded the provided filament and I went to do my first print.
Yes, I left the PRUSA provided USB stick in it.
First single tool example printed fine (benchy)
second print was the bed layout design it had one usb error that it recovered from fine
3rd print is the panetary gears but ive had 3 usb errors (only 30% thru) and then found this thread and posted my first post.
I'm using factory provided EVERYTHING and this is in an AC room, and only my 3rd print.

RE: USB error mid print
I never had any USB errors while printing (though my longest print has been around 5 hrs).
But the Prusa stick that came with the printer was corrupted few times and after upgrading to firmware versio 5.x, the printer wouldn't see any print files on the stick, firmware upgrade/downgrade did work from the stick though.
Haven't had any problems since getting a Sandisk Ultra Fit USB3.2 Gen 1 stick to use with the pirnter
RE: USB error mid print
So I copied the files over to a new USB stick, that and I am geting the same problem. prints for about 10 mins and gives me that USB drive error.
I will try deleting the new firmware file and disconnecting the wifi. other than that this is a brand new 3d printer verbatim running example gcode with provided filament.
perhaps 6.0.2 is still in beta?

Yes, I have not seen any problem in the computer. I have tried 6 different USB drives, reformatted them completely (not a quick format), never had any write error on the computer with any of them. That... would tell me to throw drive away. It's a problem with the printer. And with the XL specifically, the same drives never cause any problem on the MK4.
One thing I want to try this week is swapping the screen with the MK4.
RE: USB error mid print
Happened a 5th time... uggh....
Could it be a faulty xLCD board or the board cable I plugged into the back of it didn't seat properly? A new one is just $92...
Do I need a USB stick in it to print or could I just use PRUSA Connect?
RE:
@allen-hobbs Is there something that you really need in version 6.x? I had the same issue and downgraded to 5.1.2 (or the latest 5.X) version and the problem stopped.
RE: USB error mid print
I replaced lcd and cable, problem was still there after change. Now I am not getting error (2 long prints ok) with this combo:
- Firmware 6.0.2
- File copied from pc to pendrive (dont use prusalink or prusaconnect)
- Installed a buddy back cover with fan (-30º)
