USB error mid print

Hi, I've had my 2 head XL for a couple weeks now and have printed at least a dozen different things without issue. I've been using the 2.7 alpha slicer and firmware version 5.1 alpha for about a week now with no issues, just completed a 6 hour print last night that came out great. Today I've run into an issue where the printer stops/freezes mid print, somewhere around 40% and sits there. When I pause and resume the printer post a USB failed to read file error. I've tried reslicing and also saving as bgcode and it still fails. I'm now trying with 2.6.1 slicer to try and figure out what is going on. Has anyone seen this issue on the XL or MK4? Should I attempt to format the USB key?

It happened again with gcode from 2.6.1 slicer, just freezes then when I pause and resume I get USB error.

Doing a full format on the Prusa USB drive, in the meantime I'm trying the same gcode file on a Samsung USB drive.

Did one print successfully with new USB key, tried another and it failed at 74%. I put the same file on the freshly formatted Prusa USB key, will see what we get.

I’m having the same problem. Just started today with a 14 hour print. So far it has stopped three times on this print. The print restarts just fine after reseating the drive.

This is a known issue with the 5.1 Alpha-2.

According to the git-hub ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware-Buddy/releases/tag/v5.1.0-alpha2) under known issues:

USB flash drive disconnect can occur. Try reinserting the drive to continue using it. In the case of G-code streaming, the system might not be able to resume printing. Should that happen, please copy the file on the USB drive instead.

I experienced this several times during a 9-hour print and decided to go back to 4.7.2 for the remaining of the prints in that batch. I'm considering updating to the 5.1 alpha again just for the .bgcode, but might wait until alpha 3 or whatever the next update will be called.

Thanks for that, I was trying everything under the sun. May have to go back to 4.7.2.

Just for the record, this USB issue also exists in 4.7.2.  I put in an issue on github about it a little while back.

I can confirm that it happens in 4.7.2 also. So far, Support has suggested doing a factory reset, but I don't have a lot of hope that this will fix the issue.

It's a known bug that surely the devs will solve in the next release.

When the error appear, if you remove and insert again the usb it should resume (click resume).

It's annoying but it works

I'm not an expert. Ma parlo anche italiano 😉

Unfortunately, leaking from the nozzle results in an obvious layer line gap, basically ruining the print that it happened in even if you pull the thumb drive out and put it back in to try to resume.  And just so it's been said, this only counts if you nice it happened essentially immediately.

It's good to hear that someone is working on it.

Unfortunately you are correct, I didn't make it very far before getting the error in 4.7.2. At this point I may try the factory reset, not getting anywhere doing anything else.

Agreed, I get a blob from leaking filament then a gap when resuming. Also had a couple of occasions where it appears lines in the layer were lost when resuming. Regardless seems pretty difficult to make a decent print when this occurs. Hopefully this is fixed soon, may try the factory reset, also purchased a Samsung USB key to try.

Tried new Samsung USB key, still getting failures. Seems to be completely random, at this point I guess I'm awaiting new firmware. If anyone has any other suggestions I would love to hear them.

I don't think it is the USB drive itself. The error is the symptom. I've only had the issue when printing with all five tool heads. I have printed 5, 8-hour prints using a single head with no problems at all. But the last print using all 5 heads stopped at least 4 times during the print.

Interesting, I have been doing multihead prints and color changes. Now that I think about it at least the last single head print I did worked just fine. I'll try another and report back.

Came here to say that I'm experiencing the exact same issue.  Some prints print with no issue, some pause many times during the print.  All my prints have been 2-4 colors and under 3 hours.  Had this issue on 4.7.1 and 5.1 Alpha.  Glad and sad that I'm not the only one 🙁

This is also my experience. I can't even do a 1-hour 5-toolhead print, but did a 16h 1-toolhead fine.

If you stop the print rather than trying to resume it, and then try to print from files on the USB drive, it'll show no files. Might setup Octoprint to try printing over USB

I didnt think Octoprint worked on the XL yet,

The fancy features don't work and Octoprint got real confused over the multiple extruder temperatures, but the basic feature of being able to send g-code over USB serial still works. I was able to do a 5-tool head print like this no issue.

I believe it still triggered this bug during the print. My printer was unable to read the USB drive afterwards
