Toolhead LED flickering

When I look at the light from the toolhead LED, it is constantly flickering instead of lighting continuously. It happens regardless of whether it is actually heated or not. Do you have similar experience? Can the flickering be avoided?

I haven't noticed flickering on mine. If you swap tools, do they all flicker?

yes, all 5 tools are flickering, seems to me there is almost no difference between them. It is not visible too much when the tool is moving, but highly visible when the tool stays at the same place or is moving very slowly the same direction.

I just heard back from support. They have decided that can be normal operation. One more strange erratic thing this printer is doing.

Both of my toolheads are acting the same. I don't remember this flickering at the beginning (printer about 6 months old).

It looks more like a PWM issue rather than a hardware one. Or a combination of them...

10 month-ish old XL. No tool LED flickering whatsoever, but I've only recently started having them on.

RE:

The heads I use the most flicker.  So some do some don't.

I only turn the lights on if I need to look at something.  No point in running them all the time.

The issue I can see is that I dont think they are easily replaced as they look integral in the print head.

I contacted support months ago and they basically said it still works and there is no way to change it without replacing the print head.

So I just moved on.  Like I said no point in having the light on the whole print, it's just wasting energy.

For what it's worth my XL's toohead LEDs have started to flicker.  Had it since Nov. of '23.

I would say it has gradually started doing this since a few months ago.  But now it's very noticeable.

As the toolhead LED starts to flicker more and more, the extruder motor error is coming soon.

By cleaning the connectors of the cable-splitter-dwarf with ISO alcohol and a brass brush the flicker goes back to extremely minor to no flicker.

With as it gets heavier and more pronounced, the extruder motor error not screening is coming soon.

Wow - thanks for this! Just subscribed. This should make it into the PRUSA maintenance instructions or something. Never occurred to me that this thing is like an old Nintendo with erratic cartridges.

Gold connectors (no more oxidation and fretting) and a airtight case (so fumes from printing don't get into it to depose on the connectors) should be the proper solution.

Also dielectric grease could help and deoxit, as this is the same problem that plagued MMU2

Thank you for replies.

Indeed I had one occurrence of "motor not spinning" a while ago and immediately after I printed and install the new official connector for toolhead cables. No more motor error ever since but the flickering still in place for both toolheads. It's quite a long time since then. I just started to ignore the problem as long as it have no impact in functionality. Is only cosmetic...

And yes, the redesigned cableholder IS an improvement over the original part.
