Reassigning Extruders in Prusa Slicer for 3MF Files
I have some 3MF files that have filament colors arranged in different orders, Mainly because I hadn't figured out a standard yet. Now that I am starting to do more, I am wanting to avoid having to repaint all of my models, or rely on remembering to make modifications to the mapping on the XL front panel before printing. Is there a way in Prusa Slicer to in bulk tell everything that was set to Extruder 1 should now be set to Extruder 4.
To provide a basic use case. When I was starting I had Black in Extruder 1, White in Extruder 2, Red in 3, Green in 4, and Blue in 5. Now I have changed it so that Red is in 1, Green is in 2, and Blue is in 3. 4&5 change more often so I try to keep them on the less dense side. However if I open up an older file, it has Extruder 3 with Red in it mapped and set. However as the color locations have changed, Extruder 3 is now Blue. Is there a way I can easily in Prusa Slicer indicated that Extruder 3 should now be Extruder one, The idea being that Red is still printer as red and not blue.
I have done searching and have found I can do it from the front panel, but that adds another variable to the process that I would like to avoid.

Trivial if you can code e.g. very basic python. There's a conversion tool binary <-> ascii gcode in Prusaslicer. In ascii gcode you can just swap all instances of the respective tools. It would need a usable little GUI though, like the pre-print one on the XL panel.

So much for trival. No one wants to write code, this is an obvious oversight. I'll enter a feature request for both the slicer and the printer.

I 100% have this problem and hate that we can't select which extruder goes to a multi material color without having to recolor everything. It takes me more than twice as long if I care to change it to the actual colors I want. Additionally, it starts with the first extruder and I really try and spread usage out so the nozzle wear more or less evenly. I do not want to do this on the machine. That feels open to more error than it being in the OG G-code.
If i've missed a setting, let me know! But I think I am with you on this one! 5 tool XL problems amiright?

I Expect that you could use a Post Processing Script, to re order the colours within GCODE... not sure how it would get on with BG Code

Thank you Joan, Yes, I could, but I really don't want to write the code and add another step. I want to import a model, fiddle with the colors, and then slice it.
The good news is the XL printer will allow you to reassign extruders at print-time to over come this, I'm just suggesting that Prusa Slicer should as well.

Hi Jim does the XL Printer actually re allocate the filaments or does it just change the colour tag without changing the filaments?

I agree, please make this a feature. We remote print Via Prusa connect and would love for it to do this and not have us save to a USB and go over load and manually pick the tool.
